snorkel wanted for 92 escudo g16a

Post by Weemsy »

hi,
im looking for a snorkel for my escudo. its a 1992 5dr auto with a g16a 16 valve engine.
intake starts under passenger side wing.
OR
has anyone made their own snorkel and got good ideas for me to pinch for making my own.
i thought about a steel pipe but dont want the issues of rust inside it later on, but is plastic pipe too weak? im not thinking of rolling it though  but just a thought.
cheers

Been looking around for similar ideas for a LR 110 snorkel. Aside from welding and rust-proofing exhaust tubing I looked for aftermarket options like from safari etc. Expensive and I drag across into too many trees at snorkel height for me to like the idea of plastic too much, especially one piece systems where if something is wrecked the whole lot is wasted.

One of the options I found was a Donaldson website with all manner of stuff on there. Their systems go from intake to airbox to manifold. http://www.donaldsonfilters.com.au/engi ... sub16cat16

Got no idea of pricing but note that they have aluminium tubing and rubber joiners of various diameters and bend angles. Cable-Price is the outfit that stocks them in Palmerston North here and I may go look into cost etc shortly once I have a design in mind.

thats what i was thinking about safari type snorkels, great looking, well made etc but one bash would mean it was knackered and at $300+ im not too keen to buy new.
i was thinking about making a upvc one from a plumbing suppliers maybe? then if one section gets damaged its easy to replace.
the ones on that link you sent me looked good kit, i might call them and get a price.
cheers
