Remember everything is personal preferance.....

I wouldn't buy another other than a Warn or a new superwinch Ep9.

A cruiser can be anything from a 40 to a plodo to an 80 series..... big difference in weight. More info needed!

Work out what your budget is and buy accordingly mate
The higher rated electric winches are lower geared and pull a bit slower but are better suited for pulling your heavy two and a half tonne cruiser out of the mud

I bought one off the Runva winch's about a year ago and been really happy with it.I must admit i bought it as a bit of a joke really just to see how it would go,i figure you can't comment unless you try,it has done really well so far,i have been a Warn man all my 4x4ing life so was very hard to convince [ i use my winch maybe 20 times a year ]

Could be a bit early to tell as yet but for the price probably worth the risk,if you are going to be doing winch challenges etc i would go warn but for a club truck Runva''s are fine,i have a 10000lb on my Cruiser, just us a snatch block if you need more pulling power..ps touch wood mine has been as good as in 12 months

all depends on what you need it for....if you want one in case you get stuck occasionally then a cheapie will be fine, there is a switch on them you can replace, and the controller box can be watrproofed. if you are going to use one a fair bit then go for a decent one (expect to have your wallet emptied though).

technically you could run a 12v winch, just hook up to one of the batteries, both batteries are 12v ? so one is 12 and the other 24 when you connect to it?

I agree with Jerry SORT OF ...lol..as i have said in a previous post i would be a medium winch user [ about 20 times a year ] i jut put the control box under the bonnet [ which is fine for club truck ],haven't had problem with switch [ as yet ]
I have had the very expensive winches [ Warn ] ,any winch will crap out if not maintained
I also think there is a bit of a fashion thing with winch's if its not one of the USA one's it' shit dont take any notice,go the cheaper way if you are only using for club truck

The only winch of the cheap ones I'd consider is the 9500 one on that web site. It has a very good pull speed, quicker than my warn and nearly as quick as the 9500ti or HS which are damn dear.

I don't like the cheap 9000 and 10000 lb ones as being so slow they get hotter, (long time winching), the freewheeling clutches are extreemly poor, no load speed of 4 metres a minute is a joke and finally, when winching the slower the winch the harder on your clutch it is if you have a manual.

With a fast winch you know when it is really working and time to consider double line pull.

I use mine for a club truck with at a guess 20-30 winches a year as well.

That's the only complaint I have with mine too, so far; how slow it is.
Other than that it has successfully done everything I put it through so far.
And for that bloody switch on the control box  , wish I had re wired it inside the cabin in the first place  , get rid of it ASAP if you get one.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Theys for the infro ,When you guys talk about slow 12000lb winchs over heating ,do they just slow down and stop, cool down reset then carry on as normal after a period of time?

T-Max winches have been getting some good reviews lately. Where did you source yours from?

It is true the Runva winch is a bit slow but as yet i have had no problem with over heating what so ever and my winch [ 10000 lb ] has really been put through its pace's,as i've said before a good club winch,i would buy one again for sure.
Someone on here said there will be faster one's coming into the country, they could be the way to go

PS ANY WINCH WILL OVER HEAT,you just have to stop and let cool down or use a snatch block which will help

I disagree with that regarding any winch overheating. I use my winch at least 50 times a year and have never had it even get warm and I do extreme winching.
I have a warn 9500 ti and have cut 16 metres off the wire so it is always pulling on the lower layers of the spool. The speed is twice as quick and the amperage is cut in half as well and it never gives any problem.

I'm sure that would work,a bit like using a snatch block..lol..your idea is fine but most of us need more than 15 metre's of rope and not everyone has a ground anchor [ i must admit i do and use it all the time ]
I'll stick to my last statment any winch winch will over heat,i have seen alot do so even by the so called experts, one at a 4 day training course [ only burnt out relay though]
I'm not talking winch compitions here, but mainly on tracks, though some are of the well and truely hard yakka type
