Vitara Rear Disc's . Anyone interested ?

I have been looking at making up some rear disc's for my cousins vitara and was wondering is anyone is interested in a set of mount brackets to help reduce costs .
I am using Mitsi Galant , mid 90's , for calipers on suzuki front disc's , these have a cable hand brake . I have machined down the drum for a mount for the wheel and disc , ( cheap as it has all the studs in it already spaced etc ) , and will be getting a price to cut out the mount bracket for the caliper . Once cut out I need to machine a recess in the mount to fit over the diff housing .
If there is any interest I will price it up but at guess would be $150 for a set of plates . On top of this you would need a set of disc's , mitsi calipers and handbrake cable ( to get shortened , Auto stop can do this for about $80 ) and some drums machined down . If interested I could possibly do this on an exchange basis , ie send you a set cut down and you send me your old drums for the next set etc .

I would be interested in putting some of the mounting brakets away for a rainy day job (I have the machined disk holders at the moment so dont need them), any chance of making it a set (complete with calipers and cable - or two cables for fiddle rears)?

Te Puke Partsworld already has mounting plates etc everything that is required to put discs on the rear of an escudo, they built it up as a kit when they did a customers one a few years ago. ring them on 0800 100 494 and ask for Shane he'll be able to give you the ins and outs

Just rereading your stuff on the rear disk set up (nice to have met you in the flesh also on Sat) and you comment on the rears not requiring studs but they will be too short wont they? Would be better to replace them with front studs (a little longer to allow for the thickness of the disk).

Yep , I knew it would be close and was waiting until I fitted a wheel up . Its two close . Will try whacking a front stud into one and see how it goes for length .

you can buy cheap wheel studs that are like 70mm long and then you cut them down to the correct length, thats what i did on my vitara

Heard a whisper yesterday that the sets from Parts world are up around $700 a set. Not sure if that includes the calipers (for that price it should include a new rear diff wheel to wheel) Seems a little pricey.

Dont know about the escudo Heath but the reason I move to E class was that a Jimny C & P front or rear was $800 second hand

its all about supply and demand.

Some of you guys should try pricing up the parts you believe should be dirt cheap brand new from your nearest suzuki dealer, because i'll tell you now you'll be in for a shock.

Sorry I didnt mean brand new, just a whole new (to me) complete axle. I have bought stuff new before (if I can't avoid it or it is a safety item), but when the kist could be made up with second hand parts (not saying the ones at parts world are second hand) and a little effort that price seems a little excessive. If you shop around you can get bargains is all I am saying.

If someone wants to spend $700 on a brake kit that they could source for less than that then go for it. The check book isnt avaliable to me for racing so I have to do things the harder way, bit by bit. And yes sometimes it would probably be easier to just pay someone to do it but where is the fun in that.

I am not implying anyone here is a "checkbook racer" too by the way.

the kits partsworld supplies are complete, they come with the drums already machined down ready for use. Front studs are then utilised. Front discs, brand new brake shoes and the factory hand brake cable attaches in perfectly. high tensile mounting bolts, brand new brake hoses and 2nd hand calipers complete the package and once bolted into place will fly thru certification.
Once you price up all those bits and piece I think you'll be suprised at what its going to cost you.

Any Idea what a set of calipers and the mounting bracket would be worth? PM if you prefer.

Will be my next mod I think. Well if not the next, it's on the short list.

i was just looking at my zuki and you dont need to machine the drum? mine is a 2l v6 escudo so it could be different?

totally different rear axles, you have a scalloped head axle like a hilux, hiace, l200 etc etc run, the early 1.6 escudos have a small 4 bolt flange on the end of the axle which the brake drum bolts to, the wheel studs are in the brake drum
