turbo GQ
I have a 1991 swb td42 with a turbo 4inch lift 33x12.50x15 MT tyres last week have been playing around with the manuel boost controler turn it from 6psi to 15psi dont worry I'm a diesel mech so do fuel adjustments.Well went from Te Kuiti to Marton today to pick up a winch I got off trademe so did a round trip in 8 hours worked out I did 8.5 litres per 100ks which sounds awesome because if you know me I drive VERY HARD so was wondering what other people get out of there GQ 's?

Re: turbo GQ
normaly 6psi but for the trip it was 15psi with no problems was plenty of power so will leave it at 15 from now on since I got such good fuel economy was plenty of torque temp was a little higher than 1/4 so thats good, its also got a front mounted intercooler, lag was a little more noticable but to that bad

Re: turbo GQ
ok yeah intercooler will help, i will have to do that at some stage, just got no room up front anymore so a top mount will have to be the goer.
Is yours an air to air or air to water?? just wondering where you hook the air to waters up to if you know??
cheers

Re: turbo GQ
mines air to air I brought it as a import from jap land its a ex Nissan demo vehical so it has lots of stuff thats been changed it had stickers all over it,and that boy racer shopping list down the front guards but I took them all off, like the battarys are in the back as the alumin air box sits were the battary was which connects to the snorkel all the intercooler pipes have HKS stamped into them so theres no room under bonet hope that helps.Turboing td42 is like buying a new 4wd I've got two safaris the other one is LWB auto with a AXT turbo it goes well on 8psi thats the wifes wagon
Re: turbo GQ
Do you run an EGT guage on it? It'd be interesting to know how hot the exhaust is running.
6psi ain't much these days.

Re: turbo GQ
8.5l/100k sounds way to good.
how did you measure the fuel ?
how did you measure the fuel ?
Re: turbo GQ
12.5L per 100k with mine LWB Hi Roof,35s 5inch lift with auto trans, convertor lock up switch, and thats driving pretty quitely.
Sounds too good to me,some of the modern utes with common rail diesels, small road tyres, more stream line shapes only get that.
How much boost do you get at 100kph at cruise?
manual or auto?

Re: turbo GQ
OK its a manual at 100ks it sits at about 6-8psi but since I never drive at 100 as its way to slow add 10-25 ks on top of that which is what I normally drive at which is about 10psi except going up hills when its on 15psi have checked boost gauge with another gauge to make sure that I'm getting the right reading,as for fuel adjustment is by eye which is the way we adjust all diesels at work, the diff ratio is 3.9,as for fuel was done with your service station receit for liters and navman for distance at end of trip so should be good record as we all know nissan speedos are uselly out so I hope that helps

got a list of the fuel you put in and the km done?
i suspect somethings not right with the math.
after all your doing the same as my navara with is smaller motor, direct injected, weighs less, is modded to improve economy and i drive a whole lot slower.
Re: turbo GQ
Ok 469ks 54.18liters of diesel=?
Re: turbo GQ
11.62L per 100k
8.6km per liter
Still a very lean runner consdering the speed you drive,I'd be very happy with that

thats more like it, still very good for the speed.
how did you calculate the 54.18 litres ?
Re: turbo GQ
OPPS my bad math not so good,as for the liters its on your docket when you fill up so I filled up start navman and go refill in Turangi with docket of liters used which is 54liters so then you have your ks and liters used so thats how I worked it out.One thing tho I drive every thing I like I stole it thats why I have v8's and 6's all the 4 cylinders I ever had kept blowing up dont know why hahaha.I've had this Safari SWB for 3 years and the other LWB for about 7 years so they are good strong 4wds as I tow to nationals aswell and dont go much slower when towing unless someone is holding me up LOL.

need to do that a fair few times preferable filling up at the same pump. mainly because if the vehicle sits at different angle (ie also from different load in the vehicle) the pump will click off at a different point. you can have a 5 litre difference in some vehicles. your better off to fill it right to the brim each time, just make sure it doesn't leak out the breather.
someone remind me on other forum that there can be quite a difference in tires so reading from sat nav is best but may not compare to well to other users who use speedo readings.
Re: turbo GQ
But if you get your docket when you fill it gives you the litres so you know what u have used as for filling to the brim dont need to as u have your docket with the liters, price per litre, overal price and as for different angle I use to lay the concrete on the forecourts its not that differnt between stations it has fall for water to run away but thats about it
Re: turbo GQ
your assuming that your replaceing the exact same amount that you used.
your assuming you are filing up to the same point each time.
you need to work out what you have used not what you put in.
your assuming that you filled the tank right up but thats often not the case. you can fit say 5 litres in after the first click off, and then after the run fill it up to the click off. that makes it look like you used 5 litres less.
going by just the amount is ok IF its done over a long period of time. but that will also give an average of all the different driving conditions.
who cares if the forecourt is perfect or not, the point is to do everything consistently.

Re: turbo GQ
I can get varations as big as 1 calculated km/litre from filling up in different ways at different pumps. But it usually evens out with the next fillup and the long term average doesn't change much.
Re: turbo GQ
mine probably averages around 11L per 100, on 33s with winch and steel bar hanging off the front, non-turb manual. hard to calculate now, due to uncle helen my odometer has become 'broken'
hah no actual truth, i was just thinking on crap just about need more RUCs, then i noticed the odo and trip meter have stopped turning
suprisingly for a nissan all the other gauges still work tho
