inner tubes ?

Post by jumper »

do inner tubes work? how low can you go with them?
is $25 each fitted a good price for 33s?

reason i am asking is that after going round red rocks to just before cave bay with tyres down to 30psi i had a flat by the time i got off the track.
went back to tyre shop where they had just swapped a tyre on to a different rim. he sorted it,woke up next day tyre flat again *&^% went back to tyre shop this time a different bloke took the tyre right off the rim cleaned the mud and stones that were hard packed on the rim with a wire brush. tyre sorted at no cost to me :D

yeah tubes will fix this problem but, if you drive alot on the tarseal you will get more punctures from the friction of the tube against the tyre. Been there done that, just had to work out the critical pressure level that allowed dirt and shit to enter thew bead and deflate to just above it.

Tubes will let you drop pressure down to around 15psi mark, but you will still run the risk of rolling the bead. While your tyre wont deflate you will get alot of crap into the tyre. Around Red Rocks, that bloody sand gets everywhere. 30psi doesnt sound very low, you may have a slight bit of damage to the rim thats allowing the bead to let go. Just a guess, but I used to run my Pajero at 20psi and only rolled the bead once.

incorrect steel rims, mangels. in the day between the tyre getting swapped to a different rim and when the mud got cleaned out i let the tyre down to 30 from 35 not a big drop in psi but helps in some places. the rim looked fine when the tyre man cleaned it in front of me and the tyre is holding pressure now. i have had tyres down to 15-20psi and they did not pick up dirt
