Hi All,
I'm wanting to go from 33's to 36's on my Cruiser without doing SOA or body lift which leaves - longer shackles and body panel trim. Believe the body panel trim, moving up to 36's, and fitting power steering will all require cert but my question is:
1. Does changing from factory shackles to after market require a cert? After market being both longer (fixed) and Drop shackles.
2. Do the Drop shackles need to have a closed fixed pin to be NZ road legal? (see below)
3. Do Drop shackles give any lift over factory when closed?
Most people that have drop shackles seam to run Superior Engineering Drop Shackles which I see are now AUD599 a pair:

Does anyone know if these Tereflex Revolver Shackles from the US would be legal to use in NZ? They dont seam to lock shut but at US192 (NZD260) they are a much cheaper option:

Cheers,
Drop Shackles - Cert required?
Re: Drop Shackles - Cert required?
Hi, sorry bud but yes any modification to suspension (other than lowering within the LVV guidlines) requires cert including shackles, (failed my wof for long shackles last month) as to what is required it is best that you sort who will be doing your cert and ask there advise as some of the guide is open to interpretation.
If you follow me in the bush you must be mad cause I'm plain CRAZY !!!

Cheers, I'm happy to go through the process as want the yellow truck to be 100% road legal 100% of the time.

Re: Drop Shackles - Cert required?
I've had a different experience to pagar, I put F&R ARB anti-inversion shackels on my truck about 4 or 5 years ago and they are slightly longer than the factory ones, cant remember how much but maybe 40-50mm or something like that?
I've never had any problems getting wofs with them. When I had my truck certed for the chev engine the guy spent about 40 seconds signing off the re-power and then spent 10 minutes going over the rest of the truck to stick down all the other thing he could find including stuff such as the shackels that he said he'd put down as a declairation as his interpritation was that they currently wernt certifiable (2 1/2 years ago)?
Dunno if that helps you but thats what I found

OK so you got a WOF but not a cert for the shackles??? Sounds like maybe the WOF guy didn't know (care) or was the cert guy being overly anal?

Nup, the wof guys also the ARB dealer and he sold me the shackels. The cert guy said at the time his interpritation of the LUV stuff was that I could change the shackels and they didnt require certifying under the current regulations. What he did was to add them to my cert as a declaired modification anyway so if the regulations changed they would already be covered and wouldnt require certing whether they complied with the new regs or not.

Right, got you now. Think I`ll talk to a local cert guy just to be safe.
Anyone have any answers for the second two questions?
2. Do the Drop shackles need to have a closed fixed pin to be NZ road legal? (see below)
3. Do Drop shackles give any lift over factory when closed?

moving a little off the topic here, but.....................
those of you who have put longer shackles in.... have you had any issues with the driveshaft popping out and does it lengthen the driveshaft slightly when you use longer shackles
sorry for the threadjack

Shit they've been in there for a couple of years too

Re: Drop Shackles - Cert required?
Mate had to have his drop shackles certified, and was told they must be pinned while on road, but certifiers seem to vary a lot in what they require these days
