...but took a deep breath and bought my 'toy'. 1981 FJ40 with a chev 400. anyone know anybody auckland way that specialises in servicing SB Chev's and won't cost the earth?? dedicated LPG mind, so that's something of a relief.

yup, that's the one. she tried to sell it on to me back in april for $7500, ($3000) more than i won it for. when she relisted i bid under a friend's account. she was actually quite friendly in person. ah well, lots of messing about but desired result in the end. pics to follow shortly. need to rob some parts off the other '40 project, which has been going on too long and cost way too much. watch this space for lots and lots of parts to be made available soon - i just need to draw a line under it all and get out having some FUN :D thought i might need to drop a 5 spd box in for the highway, but on the run back from up north had her up to 120 no problem, with power to spare. hehehe

BTW, it was a wet and windy journey driving it down from Kaikohe Wednesday with no lid on it on!!

If you are on the north shore the engine reconditioners on Archers road always diid a good job for me. Price wasnt too sharp (not by much though) but they were worth the little extra for me.
