Hi,
I bought a manual for this engine, thinking it would be a great source for general service information, and I have very little diesel engine experience
Only to find even the basic, 'Engine Oil Volume' figures are missing from the GI section?? Has a nice table of oil viscocitys vs temperature but not the actual volume?
Can someone please enlighten me......with and without filter volume please
Cheers
Adam

Re: TD27T oil capacity
5.9 litres with filter 5.2 without.
Re: TD27T oil capacity
Awesome thanks!
But DOH!
I put 6l in without changing filter
checking level on dipstick.....
Any tips on removing excess oil? lol or is a pull the sump plug and stick it back in quickly job??!
Luckily it hasnt been driven since changing the oil!
Out of interest....whats the general outcome of adding too much oil???
Thanks
Adam

Re: TD27T oil capacity
im not too sure.i used to over fill mine to about 6l like you said....since i used to loose a fair bit through blow by and general leaks lol.its better now with new engine.
i doubt (im no expert) but having to much oil is a bad thing....to little oil is obviously alot worse for it

Re: TD27T oil capacity
Hmm yours too eh!
mine has cronic blow-by, so much that it leaks from the turbo compressor outlet hose / clamp area
removed 800ml from engine tonight with a syringe and some 4mm hose, so will see what level says in the morning....
IS my oil supposed to turn BLACK as soon as its put in the motor?? Did maybe 5k since new oil and its real black already
Cheers

Re: TD27T oil capacity
yea,they bad for it.
have you removed blow by hose and stuck a catch can on the end of it?
something you should probably do...stop all the oil getting back into your engine and being burnt up.
its a common problem/occurance among the td27s to be leaking oil around the trubo outlet/clamp area.

Re: TD27T oil capacity
yep, had a garden hose/peanut butter jar in place for a while
but getting a new turbo shortly so will make something a bit more comprehensive soon

Re: TD27T oil capacity
what sort of turbo..i want to replace mine with somethign abit bigger maybe.
Re: TD27T oil capacity
thinking along the lines of a T25, supposed to make them drive alot like the V6 version
not sure how much ill lose up top though....
have heard the t28 is too big, which is strange since its just a t25/t3 combination, maybe the T28 from the GTiR would be too big (like .60A/R? turbine from memory). But the smaller versions from CA18DET / SR20 Sylvias / BLuebirds would be better (.48 A/R turbine)
Hmmmmm got me thinking now lol

My disel Mistral and terrano both TD27 6.5 litres with filter change. Engine flush and service new oil 2 days will be black do approx 1000km a week in it, so every 10k or 10 weeks oil filters maybe air depending on running every 20k fuel and air filters every 25k auto gets a full service
Re: TD27T oil capacity
to much oil very bad..... better to be closer to half full than overfull, to much oil equals blown seals, excessive blowby and the likes, the reason that the oil goes black quickly is due to diesel fuel having a high carbon component one of the reasons for oil other than lubrication is to clean and carry away all the shit that is a by product of the fuels being burnt, so is perfectly normal in a diesel. one easy way to tell if the oil is getting poked is to get a bit off the dipstick and rub it between your fingers if the oil makes your finger prints fill up with black stuff then your oil needs changing. most oils filters wont remove much of this. hope this helps
PS dont drop the tube down the dipstick hole = big problem haha
