photobucket pics

Post by skid »

Can somebody please explain in simple terms, why the hell my pics are getting chopped off on the right hand side when I post them on ORE.

I've seen other members pics getting the same treatment as well.

WHY

I swear it never used to do it to me.

any answers

please

and I did a little research myself and one pic in photobucket is 665 x 446, but when I click properties on ORE, it has changed to 1024 x 687

why is that

I think it's the new forum software doesn't scroll sideways. Simple solution is to resize the pics. I go for 800 px maximum width. Seems to work.

You've got to reduce the size of the pic to fit the ORE screen. I use microsoft paint to reduce them before saveing them to photobucket (or imageshack in my case)

I've since edited my first post

pics in p buket are 665 x 446 when you right click and check the properties, so why then, when I go to the same pic on ORE and right click and check the properties, does it read 1024 x 687

how did it change

who changed it

I've made boiled the kettle twice and made 2 pots of tea while I've been waiting for my dialup to download that thread  :?

Resize your pics to the correct size before loading them into photobucket, or maybe photo bucket lets you select reduced resized pics for linking to forums

I just reduce the sizes to fit before I upload them to the hosting site

Another thing I have found. When I put a video clip on to photobucket it has to be saved in 4x3 otherwise the aspect is wrong.

Photobucket resizes them when you upload (you can change this in the settings, I have is set to 800x600 I think). When you viem them in photobucket they arent the true size, they are downsized to fit on the scren. ORE however doesnt reduce the size, it uses the size that is uploaded to photobucket.

Yeah I resize before I upload them onto the image host site, I only upload them for posting on the forum so I only need them in a small size

I have an account on webshots, and the resizing seems to work when posting to ORE.

There are a heap of photo hosting web sites out there, all free, well webshots will give me 1000 photos for nothing, and the longer I stay a member the higher the limit goes.

Ummmm, actually it explains it perfectly. When you upload a photo to photobucket the server resizes a copy of the orginal down to display on a web page at a reasonable size to fit on the screen in their website. That is the one you are seeing at 665 x 446. Then, when you link to it from ORE you are linking to the full size image at 1024x687. Just go to http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh98 ... G_0004.jpg and have a look at the file size field below the image - that's the full size (which you see if you click the "full size" link above the image).

Damn, I just repeated exactly what Turoa said...

I've never used photobucket, but you should be able to edit the size of the photo somehow or you may have to specify the size on upload. Hey, what do you know... they have a help section

The following tutorial explains how to resize an image that has been uploaded into your Photobucket account...

For you XP users, there is a powertoy, that lests you resize an image from your rightclick, context sensitive menu.
Bloody invaluable, resize on the fly, withour farking about with paint or any other graffix package.
there is also one for Vista, but not as user friendly until you get used to it.

I will find it, on the MS siite, and post a link back into this post.

Edit (1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

near the bottom of the page its called IMAGE RESIZER.
This will help you lots Skiddy.

There's another one right at the bottom for those of you with security probs, 2s???

lets you program your webcam to take shots at specified intervals.
All you need is a long usb cable...., Couldnt hurt to show the cops a photo of the thief could it?

Edit (2)

a link for a Vista equivalent resizer
