Disc Brake stone guard

Post by NJV6 »

The Disc Brake stone Guard, both front and back get stones stuck in them and don't come out. I ahve tried them close to the disc or further away but all that does is vary the size of the stone that wedgies in!

Sometimes it takes an hours driving on the road and they still there! If I am lucky sometimes a back up will get them out.

Can I take them off? What are they for?

If its just cooling then they can come off.

take em off or chop the bottom bit off so the stones have somewhere to escape

no problem with WOF with them off ?

also any problems with mud/water on the rotors?

i just had a squeal today that sounded like stone hitting the rotor, but it disappeared after i waterblasted the ute.

I removed mine about 5 years ago and have had no queries from WOF (testing station) or from LVV certifier. I asked him about it and he thought they were irrelevant.
Removing them is one of the first things I reconmend people do.
