waimak mud lovers aug 9

Post by hulux-happy »

Hi all,
yes im back again to stir things up  . i am doing a trip up the northan side of the waimak river in christchurch saturday the 9th august and things are going to get muddy :D . i did the track on saturday and it was fun, so i am wondering if other chch members would be keen to do some tracks. it will be a snorkal and mud tyre trip and of course rated tow hooks a must. i will be meeting interested persons under the motorway on the northan side right under sh1 moterway bridge at 10:00am. the trip will go for about 4 1/2 hours and if it gets to hard for drivers then the stop bank is close by for a fast escape home. i will be using uhf ch 4.

Things to bring- some lunch, recovery strop, warm clothes, rated recovery hooks, and a sence of adventure

I have done this track many times and right now its fairly challanging so novice drivers be warned its slipry and rough. there are some holes that will drown non snorkal equiped trucks mud tyres are also a must as the tracks are just s**ts without good tread

any questions pm me or add a post, cheers guys

is there still a track that long down there? most of the tracks i have known down there are now fenced off or go no where. More info would be cool.
I might be interested but im not sure if ill have time to fix my truck after the trip (i have a big trip in september) because that waimak silt destroys everything.

ok the tracks are still there, just there has been alot of dozers going thru there so its a bit differnt. the same drive i was doing two years ago is still there. we will be using tracks from the mud park all the way to the second set of overhead power lines. then we will travel back along the same tracks.

not to get of topic, i have been doing alot of other things in the last 6 months including a trip to aussie. how have you been pr

Are you going to put it in the front or rear?

Could be keen. Still haven't put a rated hook on the front yet though :|

We were there a month or two ago. I got pretty stuck trying to help a mate out who had also got stuck! I'll leave you guys with the snorkles and proper guys to it. I might have a wander around but I'll be keeping to the drier areas.

ok heres the deal. i went down at 3 today and did the whole track. its muddy as and there are some good ruts. the puddles are all full and it was very slippery and rutted. i will definitly be fun and if you want to get your truck dirty then tommorows trip is for you. the only downer is that once we get up past the mud park the is a creek crossing that is now all dug out from the flooding so we will have to bypass that bit by going out onto the road and come back in after the creek crossing section. all good though as its only a 3 minute detour and then we will be straight back into it. it will certainly be a good test of truck capabillity and will have a few little tight sections where it gets fun. no stop banks will be ruined thou and thats the main thing    . anyways it is all go for tommorow so we will see you there at 10 am and i will hang at the motorway bridge till 10:30 sharp **not the jet boat ramp carpark but just over 250mts north of that carpark section. we will be parked at the gate just after the m/way bridge

for contact ch 4 uhf

cheers all.....

I've posted these in my own weekend post but figured there's a bit of cross over!

This is what the area looked like. The top section is from a few months ago. The bottom from Saturday:

And this is a truck that we came across! Took three of us to haul him back up the slope:
