race seat alterations

Post by Rotazuk »

When Rex got some seats , the fixed back type , he was told you can get them shaped a bit to suit . Has anyone ever heard of this or know of anyone that does this , prefferably in the akl area ?
I have a set of seats that are a great fit for me , ie really dam small :) , but no good for anyone else so was trhinking of getting one widened a bit through the thigh area ( its narrowest point ) . If no luck I will just have to sorce a bigger seat to go with it .

Cheers

i think you can get seats moulded from your body then made but if the seat you have is fiberglass you could just cut it and redo that bit?

Its a cheep plastic one , with what I am guessing is a bit of a steel frame . Really just want to heat the thing up a bit , press the sides out and then let it cool .
The seat base is a good width but the part that comes up from teh base to the back by your thighs pinches in a fair bit .

I don't know if they could help you with that particular alteration, but try ringing Craig Wilson at RETRO products in AKL. The do a lot of custom leather upholstry for us on new cars, and should also be set up to reshape and re-pad seats. He's been really helpful to us in the past.

Worth a call to find out, tell him Leigh from Nelson SUzuki suggested that you call.

Otherwise contact a good local auto-trimmers. Most of them do a lot of seat alteration work.
