As everyone is aware 24 bolt beadlocks do not comply with the LVV rules for beadlock wheels so they shouldn't be certified.
But if they are on a truck that has not competed in a full winch challenge and the driver hasn't competed in a full winch challenge as a driver then you can enter the club class with a non road legal truck as long as it meets all other rules.

So yes 24 bolt beadlocks can be used..... sort of, but not in the open class.?

Thanks darin ill keep this event in mind, id rather spend money on getting a winch rope than replacing my beadlocks.

Darin, it is correct that at one time some external beadlock wheels were certified and that would carry forward. Those wheels do need constant attention for loose or damaged fasteners.

You must drive very hard Peter or could have been running the wrong tyres for the riims?

Ive had them for the past 2 years and never had a problem nither has my dad and he has had a set for over 5 years.

There are documented cases of those fastenings failing, which was why the higher bolt count is now required. Remember that it is the vehicle that is certified and components can't be regarded as certified in isolation. Unless the vehicle has a cert plate recognising those beadlocks, they are not legal to use. I don't use beadlocks, but was on the team that worked on developing a 'best practice' rule for LVVTA, so that drivers did have an option of legally using them.

Didnt think you were peter, i have heard of one case of them failing due to a bad bach of bolts so was interested in why they fail. Anyway this is getting a bit off topic so maybe another time.

Ok, that is quite easy then. If they are legal and the cert plate prove that 24 bolt are OK, then it isn't my job to over rule an engineer. The documentation would need to be very clear that it reffers to 24 bolt wheels. So if you want to come up then send me the docs and I'll tell you the decision.

FYI everyone. I have a meeting with the property owners tomorrow to discuss mud management. We are going to have to be extreme cautious of any mud getting off the site. It is the price we pay for having the event in the centre of town but a small price. It will mean every vehicle going on site will have to be washed down before it goes back onto tarseal. We are organising some big water blasters so that this can be done quickly. It will mean that vehicle access will be limited but we do have a very big metalled parking area right next to the site as well. The biggest issue will be support crew having to walk more than 50m from there trucks!!!

Also all competitors will be required to carry a ground cover to be used whenever working on their vehicles. We have had coments about peices of CV being left lying around and as this is now a construction site we have to be even more careful with this sort of thing.

Hi Darin,A question for you ,I have had a couple of mates who want to come up and watch ask if thats okay, is it ? .i have told them that there will be a gate charge to help cover cost of running event and they would have to leave their car off site and walk ,are both sites spectator friendly and open to spectators..Cheers

Spectators are more than welcome, but only on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
Saturday morning we are in a forest so will be the normal 'support crew' only rule. So if they are part of your crew then......
All competitors and support crew will be required to wear high vis.
Yes there will be a per person charge for everyone who isn't a competitor. I will confirm this after our meeting tomorrow.

On the less than 36 bolt beadlocks subject, the vehicle LVV cert plate would have to be dated prior to the rule changes (as noted on the paper work) and no modification requiring a cert done since to be ligitimate as an entry.

Darin, talked to Steve today, the comp sounds excellent. Do we need some Silverstones?

We are ready to send out entry forms but I need to get an idea of entry numbers. As it stands the entry fee will be $150 but if I can get 12 entries confirmed by Wednesday then we'll drop the entry fee to $125. On top of this there will be a charge of $5 per support crew to cover the costs of food on Saturday afternoon and Sunday prize giving.

We are having some last mintue access problems with one site so we may not be able to cater for spectators,but this will be confirmed before the end of the week. It won't effect the running of the event it will just mean we will be racing on one site instead of 2 different sites.

Also we have changes things for the club class. After learning a bit more about the event Steve ran at Helensville, we are going to run the same vehicle rules and will mark the tracks accordingly. This means Club class don't need aditional roll over protection unless they are a soft top vehicle. We will use the same gate system to keep the speeds down.

So if you are keen, then let me know ASAP and we will set the entry fee on Wednesday.
