Performance mods, you gotta love them!!!!
So anyone that has been out 4wheeling with me latey will know that theold girl has been running lika a bag of shit.
Missing and blowing blue smoke on occasion at high rev's under heavy load.
I won't go into to much detail as to why, but its all to do with the way i have had it tunned. Eg, not for economy.
It starves for fuel between 3000 and 3500rpm.
Much like when you have not bled the system properly after doing a filter change.
To cure this, i could have put everything back to standard and lost the extra performance, but that would be no fun.
So after to talking to people that run TD42 motors in competetion vehicles and finding that this was a common problem after such performance tweaks, a solution to the problem was devised:

Image

The idea is to get a high volume, low pressure fuel pump to supply fuel to the injector pump, preventing it from having to work so hard sucking the fuel all the way from the tank at high rev's.

The tricky part was finding some where to mount it. Big engine bay sure, but its pretty full when you looking to mount something extra in there!!.
Being as i am, not liking to change anything i can't put back if i had to, I decided on making a kind of bracket to attach to the left hand battery box. It would mean moving the clutch vacum cannister somewhere else, and moving those rediculous air horns of mine.

Image

Image

Luckly with the vacum cannister, i just reversed the hoses and flipped the whole unit around the other way. Plenty of room, and i didn't have to cut anything
You can see it mounted in its final place here. Its not plummed in and the airhorns are still out of the way, but you get the idea.
It works well. I thrashed it around alot this afternoon and couldn't get it to miss behave.
Need to take it out and see what it does in the rough stuff.

It was either spend $$$ on panel beating the dents, or spend $$$ on fixing the problem once and for all :D

I have a 9" angle grinder you can borrow - right after I chop all the metal out of my rear quarters due to some very heavy denting from Riks place :)

Re: D.B's GQ Shorty back for 2010

Seeing as there has been a lack of tech around here recently, here's some of the daily action from my work shop, not all that exciting really, but better than some of the womans weekly shit that gets posted around here

Decided that I needed to make the bed easier to get into, so tonight after work I fished out the remains of the original rear bumper and grafted part of it back on and capped the ends to tidy it up a bit:

Makes access easier

The cool little end caps I made 8)

Doesn't hang out as bad as I thought it would:

The Bed for those that have forgotten (yes, its a SWB)
Image

Good effort the evening I thought

Not quite.

I pinched some OME Nitro Charger shocks off Wopass to try in the rear with the new EFS springs I put in a week of so ago.

The TuffDog shocks I have in it were to hard, they were a competition shock, it was like driving a lowered car on the road

The shocks:
Image

OME are slightly longer extended and the same compressed, so will have more down travel. The valving is fixed, but set so that there is minimal compression damping but strong rebound damping. They should make good touring shocks.

The Tuffdogs are just rock solid, even after years of use, and they are a foam cell shock. The valving is wrong for your average four wheeler!!!!!
