Hi,
I am putting disks on the rear of my surf, intending to use surf calipers and disks so need to put a handbrake on the transfer case, I know there are various kits around from overseas but want to build my own.
Does anybody know of a suitable mechanical caliper that could be used for this.
Thanks
Tim

Re: Hilux/Surf Transfer Case Brake, Has Anyone Made One
I am looking at building a transmission handbrake at the moment also. I have been to the local kart shop. Only the kids karts use a cable opperated caliper, and it is not at all ideal. All the real karts use hydro calipers. Bummer.
How much did the allpro kit cost you? does it work well?
Cheers.

If you put calipers with handbrake levers on the back of your lux you can hook up the origional handbrake cables without mucking around with setting up a trans handbrake.
Subaru Leone 1985 ish front calipers or Nissan Maxima have the handbrake levers.

True, and thats what I have started doing. Unfortunatley I have a ln130 coil rear end in my truck and almost everything gets in the way. (coils, shocks, swaybar). Its just not fun. If a trans handbrake was relativley cheap/easy I would prefere to go that way. But at $550 aus I will find another way.

Re: Hilux/Surf Transfer Case Brake, Has Anyone Made One
i got mine from the states last year and the total price to get it and shipped i think cost me about $400-$450nz, that was from allprooffroad.com, they were good people to deat with, i to have disc's on the rear of mine tried to hook up the handbrake but was not that responsive, this one is heaps better, leithfield on here has one on his rig as well,

Think Im going to take the easy option and buy an allpro one. Can get them from locktup4x4.com.au for $420 kiwi, delivered.
Re: Hilux/Surf Transfer Case Brake, Has Anyone Made One
Series 4, 5, and 6 RX7 calipers were pretty much the same, but the newer they are, the more expensive. Using surf ventilated front discs.
Shortylux-been doing some reseach for you (Lovegroves) and might have found some calipers that will work for you.
