My New Beast!!

Post by nzhunter »

Bought a hilux through damaged tenders on Thurs. Its 1986 double cab 4wd 2.4 diesel even has mags!!!!! All for a total of $1000!! Has damage to side and front corner and needs re-rego but other the than that its a runner. I was at a camp at Waipara over the weekend and it goes great, one river crossing was a tad to deep (came over bonnet) and gave me a fright thinking about the stupid place they put the air intake so soon as I can afford it Im buying a snorkel. I still have my subi anyone thats wants to buy it PM me will be going cheap.

What I need to buy (does anyone have these parts and wanna sell?):

Headlight assembly drivers side including park lights and indicator
RHS front indicator
Spare wheel (wanted cheap az needs to be road worthy tho)
Snorkel
Someone who can do some cheap panelbeating (just has to be relativly straight)

Think I have most of those bits at the shed... theres a snorkle on the Isuzu which I think is a nissan fit, but should be able to be modified onto the Hilux pretty easily. Its in good nick, $200 for that and I'll throw in the light assembly for free :)

I have a good spare or two lying about, $25 including rim. What size do you need?

Good score, double cab for a grand... Where am I when these bargains come past??? out buying broken Isuzus :P

When will I learn... :P

a: look at the back of the diff housing... if it has a small white sticker beside the fill bung then its probably LSD.

b: jack up under the diff, both wheels off the ground, then spin one wheel quickly one way then quickly the other. IF the opposite wheel spins in the SAME direction, LSD... if it spins in the opposite direction then its open.

LSDs are useless when this old anyway, but can be tightened relatively easily and cheaply... not something I have done before but I know the basics of what to do...
