Overnight trip to station in Taihape
Overnight trip to station in Taihape
Hey guys, Just tryin to gauge interest in doing a trip to a big station called Ohinewairua Station I have access to. Some may know it as I know the ccvc club visits regulary.
Would be an overnighter staying in shearers quarters with full amenities.
Farm tracks and bogs to keep the boy (and girl) in us happy.
Post your thoughts so I can organise if its popular

Could also be a starter but this again depends on dates and work commitments. If it is to be after lambing, weaning etc then that may well work out good. I'll keep watching this thread and see what dates turn up.
Would be good to meet up with a few Manawatu folk (and others too).

Re: Overnight trip to station in Taihape
Its a great trip we normally go in on a long weekend. When you say your staying in the shearers qtrs, do you mean the ones at the entrance or the ones right down by the river as theres camping aswell down there and theres a lot of good trips that you can start and finish there.
NO one remembers who comes 2nd....!

Yeah I prefer to stay at the front quarters, no all about the campin spots lived there for 20 years and my brother has taken over the management from my father, I did tag along with the ccvc a couple of years ago in a charcoal d/cab hilux, you there then ?

As a matter of interest: Heard your Brother and Ohinewairua Station mentioned on National radio this morning in a news item about high country farmers under snow. Said that he said they'd had 10 snowfalls in the last month and feed could be a problem.
Lambing and snowfalls. Hope there isn't ahuge problem for them up there. Has their lambing strted already up there?

Yeah I was up there on the weekend, few lambs but still early the place is just sodde which is good for heavy footed 4x4ers but not so good for growing grass. People have short memories as the winters of late are nowhere near as bad as the ones I remember

Bump! just curious whether anything has been sorted on the timing of this trip... still keen but work hours are getting unpredictable for the next month or two.
