Waipara River.......

Today I was involved with a party of volunteers alongside Ecan and the Huruani council.
We placed 6 signs at various locations along the public access entrances to the Waipara River, in an effort to reduce vehicles wandering into locations they should not be in.
If you frequent this River, please respect the instructions on these signs.
Id hate to think what would happen if the "powers that be" decided to close the river to public access because of the inappropriate actions of a few.

I know this may sound like a basic question, but may have been missed in the complexity of this issue.
Has any thought been put into marking the public access areas bit like some areas of the Ashley have 4WD signs

I cant honestly answer your question Billyvan but I would suggest that one sticks to the river bed only, do not drive out of the river unless it is on a formed track. These 6 signs are a start and possibly "the powers that be" might get wind of your suggestion and place more signs where and when needed.
It was interesting to see the amount of water still in the river and I can only imagine what it must have been like in full flood. There was some talk today that the gorge area would have been almost full to the brim with all the water above squeezing through there.

If anyone wants to go above Stringers bridge to the gorge, I would suggest one looks for a posting somewhere in this "Land Access forum", that has a phone number to ring advising the farmer concerned. This way we will keep everyone happy, I hope.
I'm pretty sure he was one of the volunteers there although I was in another group so didn't get a chance to have a chat with him.

It was a team effort on behalf of many concerned parties, I simply put my hand up when asked to help out.



Together we all can make a difference, and educate those who need educating to retain this privilege.

Hi Pete, signs look great.
Must be plenty of water there as I know of some guys who have been up and through the gorge in jet boats during the last couple of weeks.
Hope they rang for permission

I hope that the rivers protectors protest Claremonts latest advertorial that is in this months AA magazine.

Why not contact the AA & complain about the inaccuracy of this "advertorial" & ask for it to be corrected in the next issue.

I would prefer that it came from the Waipara Protection Group - they already deal with Claremont and have the local council backing.

I think youll find Claremont are part of WPG so unlikely to happen.
