Hmm No bfg m/t 285/75/16 for a month or so . Looking at a few others for my 80 series . G/Y wranglers 3 ply side wall , how do they go for road noise/Wear ? price doesn't seem to bad. And the maxxis bighorn are they 2 or 3 ply side wall? . The p/scorpion was reccomended as a close option to bfg, saying it had a heavy 2 ply side wall. Looks ok but the price is starting to get up there!. Looking for a similar tread to bfg m/t , have chains I normally fit anyway when it wet greasy on hill tracks and they can be hard on side walls at times, And also do alot of travel up south island riverbeds which seems to do alot of cutting on the tyres. Not going extreme as the amount of road kms to and from is too high. Any input would be great thanks

I personally found godyears shit on a heavy truck. Pirellis are good tyres but wear real fast on tarseal. I went through a set in under 30,000ks on the terrano. Hope that helps.

I like the maxxis tyres,they seem to do most things very well and they really do a good mileage,they handle very well on the road as well,i have 35x15 on my landcruiser at the moment and are more than happy in the way they perform
I have tried many tyres over the years,the simex and super swappers are probably the 2 best extreme tyres but for a good all round tyre in my opinion only you can't go past the maxxis bighorn

Both seem pretty strong in the sidewalls - heaps better than the Maxxis Buckshot. They both have about 4-5mm less tread than the BFG when new.

the maxxis is a heap better in the mud and i have found wear a lot better than the goodyear MTR..i have never really liked BFG'S [ always had heaps of problems with them ]....i really get fantastic mileage out of the maxxis,being one of the reasons i use them,just make sure you inflate to the right pressure for the road,i run 18lb off road and about 38 to 40 on road

Have you thought about the Kumho KL71, they seem to work well on my truck

if its a light truck id go for maxxis trepador and if heavy go for maxxis creepys! they are awsome!

do you run the A/T or the M/T

if A/T, then go for Coopers

american made like the BFG and last forever, but unfortunately, pricey like the BFG

You are the same as me,my truck is a daily driver as well....the tread is about 16.7mm when new

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME SIZE ON MY 80 AND RUN THE GOOD YEAR MTR, BIT NOISEY ON THE ROAD WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN BUT NOT NOTICIBLE WHEN CLOSED. SEEM TO BE WEARING PRETTY GOOD AS WELL. QUITE HAPPY WITH THEM AND FOR THE PRICE...HARD TO BEAT. WHAT PRICE HAVE YOU BEEN QUOTED FOR THEM ?

285/75-16 prices from memory bfg's $394 incl, p/scorpain $345incl, gt adv mt 270incl, goodyear 340?? , bighorn 294+ , buckshot 270?? + . Prices vary some quotes where like 100 dollars difference. got the cheapest price probably not ... but had the truck on the lift straight away , tyres arrived 10 mins later and got morning tea, checked hand brake adjustment , and left a happy customer. See how they go , report back in 3 years
