Escudo front diff questions.

Post by ONOescudo »

Hello to all.
Long time viewer, first time question.

I have a steel casing front diff, 26 spline. Complete with air locker and the C/V flange change (to the right side). Lucky me.

That I have split to assess condition before I throw it in my vehicle.

1st prob. There are a number of steel fragments that have come from the crown wheel but mostly from the back of the pinion. (Which is a bit of a worry on its own). But my question is. -
It looks to me that I can use my original alloy gear carrier complete with crown wheel and pinion. Is this the go or will the air locker or different spline count stuff it up?

2nd prob. The right side plug wont go far enough into the diff so that the snap ring won’t engage. Is the plug shaft to short or is it a prob with the Air locker? (Have ground it shorter but still wont engage)

3rd prob. How much psi is nessary to activate a Air Locker? Seems like not very much. Ill get a regulator and a dump valve at some stage. But seem to have bigger issues to sort first (as above).

Sorry for the length of this post but may be of interest to someone. Someone with experience with front diffs.

Cheers.
