welded rear diff

Post by new2zukes »

hi i was going to weld up my rear diff next weekend and was wondering what way people prefer. either weldeding the side gears as pictured or welding the carrier as pictured. would it be alot stronger doing both of these methods? oh and btw my truck will be trailered everywhere so no probs with road handling.

Weld the carrier, the gear only method can give to much "backlash" and break axles. I fully welded mine zooks rear, no problems at all, best traction aid it has!

I have seen gear only weld setups spit the side gears out. ie they break the side gears down and then all the nice bits of metal floating around in the oil do a really good job on the R&P.
Weld it solid.

heard filling gears with melted alloy works good, doesn,t make the gears fragile

alright so what have you welded there are they the gears that go ontop of the side gears if so do u just take one side gear out and weld the crap outa it? i presume you let it cool after a few seconds of welding.
