SMOKEY wrote:Hi Pete, something to be aware of and I don't know If It applies to your vehicle Is when modifying vehicles, the front panels get cut out and or modified to fit the radiator and then because of panel alteration the radiator becomes a stressed member. I am looking foreward to meeting you and the 40 at Sheffield.

One way to fix the Radiator problem  , would be to fit a FORD one,

BUILT FORD TOUGH,

FITZY

Cheers Fitzy.

The mount used to hold the radiator is a copy of the stock one, just slightly wider. So we thought it would of been fine. There's been no panel alterations done. It's all stock as.

The only Ford part I'd think of throwing in Fitzy would be the mighty Ford 9 inch diff.

I always had problems with my 40's splitting radiator tanks, the front end's do a lot of twisting and even with the radiator sitting on its own cushioned frame they still get stressed with all the movement

Never had a radiator problem in my 70 in the 5 years I've had it but my 40's were going into the radiator guy at least once a year to get the tanks taken off and soldered back on :?

I fail to see the problem

had a standard 40 series radiator in factory mounting and it was fine

I'm really sick of blown radiators. I'm thinking of getting A1 to build me up one. It might cost an arm an a leg but if it stops the problem it'll be worth it.

Not sure. The hippo kit was $120. Came with everything needed to apply it. Rick suggested it. He's used it on his Jeep.

I used it on both of my previous wagons (hilux DC tray and 413 interior) was great. But make sure the surface under neath is preped properly as you dont want to trap water or rust under it.

And wear gloves taped to long sleeves. I didnt on the first one and the ruberised shit took about 5 weeks to get rid of. Oh yeah and dont drop any on concrete (or anything) cause when its on its on (I dropped an icecream container with some in it and of course it landed upside down - bugger).

I'll be doing my new wagon when the time comes also.

They tell me it's good shite. So I'm hoping, but going off what Heath as said, it should do the job.

After getting the bull bar altered we've come into what I thought was a minor problem. Turns out to be a major problem. Get this, I may end up having to get another bull bar made up!
The dicks that were meant to powder coat the bull bar plastic coated it. So when it went away to get the power coat taken off, they couldn't. They zinc coated the bar before coating it as i asked. But trying to remove the plastic coat is proving to be a major mission. 2 sandblasters had a go removing it with no luck. I've approached a acid dipping company to remove it but they say I'd be up for hundreds as they would have to replace all their chemical once the job is done. AND they really didn't want to do it. Even an abrasive sandblast won't remove it. I can't believe the trouble I'm having in trying to get it back to bare metal. I'm at the point where i might just sell it as is and get a new one made up. It's CRAZY!!

Anyone who can suggest ANY options, I'd be very grateful.

Hi Pete,

what is wrong with leaving the plastic coat - i realise it is wrong but I have seen some plastic coating things look quite smart.

Hi Glen.

I'm gunna spray what parts are bare steel with enamel and throw it back on and look for a solution at a later stage.
Still pisses me off the plastic coat won't remove easy.

build a bombfire in the back yard once burning well drive front of truck into flames and I'm sure the plastic coating will burn off, alturnativly remove bull bar first. I would try using a high temp heat gun (ie the LPG type ones) and a scrapper? I hate it when some dumb arse farks up my toy with the wrong sheit. good luck getting it off.

The guys who did the alterations to the bull bar tried a blow torch to it and they said it just went to a mucky mess, left a residue behind. They recon it would of taken hours to do the whole bar. So for now I'll just throw it back on and maybe do that myself at a later date.

Have you tried a angle grinder with a sanding pad on it? I would think that would take it off in now time.

in the line of blasting - try Blast Tech in Kaiapoi. I've had classic car parts done there and he blasts all sorts of various media. He's also my sister's bro-in-law so looks after me a bit.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

If it was me, i would coat the bar with under body deadner, or that hippo liner (it will hide all of the sin's), then once set, give it a coat of 2k acrathane, or industrial enamal. It'l look sweet, it'l be glossy, with a slight textured look that will keep people guessing :D
