95/96 Mu Wizard
Hi everyone, I have just bought a 95/96 Isuzu Mu Wizard import a couple of days ago. Still finding my way around it especially as the manual is in Japanese. Can anyone give me some ideas where to get hold of a manual in english which won't cost the earth including specs for the vehicle? Also has anyone heard about problems associated with the transmission, its taking some getting used to as when you are driving along and put ya foot down it seems to kick back down a couple of gears revs hi and doesnt seem to want to pull away unless you take ya foot of the pedal abit then it picks the next gear then pulls away. Seems to be abit jumpy.....maybe I'm expecting to much....dunno. Bit unsure about auto 4X4's I guess and how to drive them......any comments?

Not sure where you might find an english formated user manual from, But Ckeck this site out.. Club isuzu.com.. It's a NZ based club and they'll be able to help ya out. As far as the kickin back a few gear's goes.. On the right hand side of the transmission stick is a O/D button. Click this when ya wanna put ya foot down.. This help's a bit.. There is also a power/ economy switch on the console in front of the transmission stick.. set that to power before you overtake with the use of the O/D button & ya should be right. ( assuming the Mu/wizard LWB & the Mu SWB have the controls in the same place).. Theres nothing wrong with Automatic 4X4's They do have there disadvantages.. But so do the Manuals.. It's really personnal preferance. I drive an Auto and wouldnt change for anything (cept maybe a fullykitted Patrol!
) Hope this helps.. Oh yea... Welcome aboard..

Thats awesome muddyman, thanks. Have just had the cambelt and other belts replaced today, has only got 39k on the clock but as being an import was advised to get it done as it is 10 years old. I asked about the transmission today and they said that it can be a bit "busy" so is something I just have to learn how to drive. Both the O/D and Power buttons are where you said so will give that ago. Do you know how many k/w output the motor gives? and if the turbo has a boost adjustment?

If you are after the "user" manual, you can get one here
http://www.techbooks.co.nz/
Workshop manuals are a LOT harder to get, as Haines, Gregorys do not produce them (unless they have started now...).
Also try the outerlimits site for info/specs

With those low km's its probably spent a long tmie sitting around not running - get ALL the hoses and pipes checked as there are quite a few... if any one goes then you run the risk of cooking the motor - something terminal in the 3.1TDs... they are a rgeat strong motor, but are subject to hand grenading if not meticulously maintained.
The auto sounds like it needs a service... get the kick down switch etc checked...
Enjoy, you have a good wagon
Steve
PS: There is a crowd on trademe doing user manual translations... can't remember their name but look in the auto parts section...

I found out from the mechanic that the TPS was set really high causing the transmission to be really "busy". He adjusted it making the gear changes to be heaps better. The motor still has all the pollution control stuff on which I have been advised to do away with. Would doing this make much difference?...any suggestions?

There is talk that within 12 months there will be emission testing as part of each WOF... removing or blanking permanently the EGR equipment will probably cause you to fail these tests...
On the 3.1TD you can fit little blanking plates between the EGR valves and the manifold which will effectively bypass the system without removing it, then if you need to for WOF reasons you can remove the blanking plates and with any luck it will all spring back to life - although sitting unused may cause it to seize, meaning new EGR valves... Thanx for ya feedback SupraLux. I checked out ya link and all the boys are playing with there EGR's blocking them off without taking them off. My mechanic took the hoses off mine yesterday and shoved screws in the end of the hoses as he said the EGR's were slow reacting. Have noticed a bit of a reduction in power since. Not sure what I'm gonna do from here.
