due to storm westcoast tracks

Post by nuts »

due to the recent bad weather if you are planning on coming to the westcoast be well prepared to do all ot of track work as there are lots of tracks  smiths clearing and seddonville has had lots of trees fallen over them so unless you bring a decent chainsaw i recomend avoiding these areas ( for those who dont think they need the exercise )   i will update as i will be attempting to go through these tracks (chainsaw in hand and winch at the ready     ) if i hear of any others affected i will post it  :) :) :)
going to seddonville hopefully sunday so will update then

Is it mainly the pine trees that have fallen over or everything ?

I would say the same goes for most tracks in the country, that was a couple of windy days that would of upset quite a few of our favourite play tracks

chainsaws at the ready I think

went out there looks like going to be months of wrk nearly all the tracks are blocked arround moabones sideand the coal mine tracks ,,, the new track we are currently reopening is nearly finnished after todays effort ( yup kev me and chainsaws is a given     ) also went and had a quick look at smiths clearing massive amount of trees over the track :x looks like a major allrtound to reopen most of the tracks that have been checked so far        but on the upside hey it just makes the tracks more interesting (chainsawing and winching )

Looks like you need to organize a working bee weekend Nuts. Would be a bit of a challenge for everyone.

Is that the new track Flag told me about across from the precipice ?

yeah think it could be ,,if he told you its the one we have been working on for a while now :!: :!: :!: it goes in off radclif ridge and comes out near the charming creek walkway end of the road

ive got 2 chainsaws and a winch so im keen for a working bee 8) 8) if we can get enuf ppl we can send diferent groups to diferent tracks 8)
i think flag is going to have a chat with timberlands ,,, or what ever they are called now ,,,,,  ,,,, abt the fallen trees to see if they are going to do anything with them ,
if they are it will save us allot of work but not all of it

just got back from karamea so stoped in at the track to smiths clearing as i suspected reports were wrong no body has been down with an excavator as yet infact i had to give up and come bak up as was too hard going on me ticker climbing over stretches of 50 mtrs or more of fallen trees at any given part for those that know the track i walked climbed and so forth to the other side of the slip and gave up wen i got to approx 100 mtrs of fallen trees ...... i have pics wich i will upload 2morrow the size of the trees is bigger than they look in the pics the biggest 1 i saw was approx 4 ft in diameter

The weekend trip was quite good wasnt it Nuts. Good little track we have there, but working bees are going to have to happen as us guys here that are proactive in keeping the tracks open have mammoth task ahead of us. When you going to have another disk ready to watch Nuts? Should have been some good footage on the weekend.

well ive been out a few times and the work that is being done unless you have been into the areas you realy wont have any idea how much of an effort is going in by those who are actively making progress after being through with a chainsaw or 3 it looks like driving through a timber yard just not stacked as tidy

SO TO ALLTHOSE MAKING THE EFFORT GRATTITUE AND THANX IN ABUNDANCE :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
