KZN185W surf - want 1-2" lift but smooth ride

Post by floatingkiwi »

Hi There folks

I've got a 99 surf, KZN185W, and I'm trying to get a little bit of lift (nothing serious) but still a smooth ride.
Now, I installed standard King rear springs (KTRS-59)in my fathers truck, quite impressed. So I then installed the raised ones (KTRR-59) in my truck, but they are quite a lot harder and their free length is actually shorted than the standard version - KIng Springs told me that both springs have the approx same spring rate, but that is plainly not the case.

So to recap I'm trying to get a little lift 1-2inch, but still maintain a smooth ride. Front and rear shocks will be replaced with KYB's standard length.

Any ideas? I really liked the standard ones on my dad's truck, but want the same thing but a little higher.

hi for the 185 surf just get some coil spacers so you can keep the std coils in.
use the monroes(adventure) they are nice and firm, but still mantain great flex offroad aswell.
with any aftermarket coils youre truck wont sit even too, thats why if you make some spacers you get the perfect height allround at half the price aswell.
also if youre std coils ever sag replace them with stock height dobinsons they work great in the 185 with the monres too.
these surfs ride great offroad with the coil over front comparing to the 130 tbar setup i found also...

ive got one of these too, im after a lift also as mines been lowered by the looks.. imported with red progresive springs, ive got bilsteins up front too, my top arm at front faces up and i have a little camber along with 10mm trevel till bump stops

i was planing on making another knotch for the circlip on the shockbody that holds the spring seat (even cheaper again using standard coils)

check if you have bilsetins up front (yellow and have an alloy spring seat)

No I don't have Bilsteins, but hold onto them they're a good shock and can be rebuilt I believe.
I will be putting KYB's in as I have heard the Monroes are not quite so good and a wee bit harder than the KYB's as well.
I do need to replace the springs as the standard ones are a bit soft. Coil spacers with King's standard springs may be an option, yes. I just heard back from Kings about the spring rates for the KTRS and KTRR back springs: "The KTRS-59's are approx 230lb/" and the KTRR-59's are 300lb/"."

So clearly not the same spring constant!!

Where would I get coil spacers for King Springs?

Yes, i don't particually like the Monroe Adverntures - too firm. Had them on the front for about a month then put them in the shed...
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)
