when i go to fuel up, i turn the cap and loads of pressure escapes from the tank.
the truck runs fine, not heavy on juice, starts fine, tick-over is good etc etc.
im guessing that the charcoal canister filter thingy on the drivers side front inner wing is blocked. is there a way of bypassing it properly, or does anywhere sell none-genuine filters?? been to BNT and repco and they both say that there computers dont even show this filter. is there a need for it to be there? i read the haynes manual but all it really says is how and when to change it, not really it purpose.
anyone else messed about with this thing?

go to your local Suzuki dealer and buy a factory vented fuel cap,
if the pressure gets to high it will crush the tank under pressure.
has seen it before.

Is it pressurising or vaccuming? Sounds like your vent is blocked?

pressurising, but im told that there's not a breather vent as such, just this charcoal canister set-up. it feeds into the intake manifold through a small solenoid.
dont know if thats right about having no vent though??
i will get a vented cap if i dont get it sorted shortly, but i would like to cure the fault.

sounds like no vent or a blocked vent is your problem, no fuel tank should be sealed so it cant breath and adjust to atmospheric presure

yeah i know. thats why im wondering what the bloody hell this funny breather set up does
i can 'cure' the problem easily by getting a vented cap, but its gone from being fine one day, to completely blocked the next??? seems a bit odd...
i might be p1ssing up the wrong fence with this breather filter thingy, but its bugging me cuz i dont know what it does

there is also a breather cannister on top of the tank,
the injected models give more problems as the pump pressure is greater.
have a look on the top and see if packed with mud,had this happen once.
but vented cap will by pass the problem

aaahhh.
i wasnt told there was another one, when i asked i was told that the tank vapours and venting were taken care of using the canister thingy, and that it was the only way the tank breathed...........
i will drop the tank this weekend and get everything cleaned up, it will give me a chance to look more closely at it for when i lift it above the x-member and out of the way aswell.
so, can that canister thingy just be disconnected and removed? it will give me more room in the engine bay for other things.
someone must have a g16a injected 16 valve that they have used for trialing etc and removed this bloody filter......

Pretty sure it is just part of the emissions crap.
Mine is there but I intend to remove it and blank off the hose to the solenoid.
Eventually I intend to run a small fuel cell so the whole tank will be removed (complete with all the breathers etc).
Maybe remove the charcoal canister (thats what it is from memory) and blow the line back into the tank to ensure it is clear. Then get a small fuel filter and put on the end of it to keep it clear of crap.
Of course this would then leave you with a direct line to the fuel tank venting under the bonnet - maybe not a great idea.
Perhaps rig up a new breather to somewhere else, or just get a vented cap and remove the vent line from the tank and seal it (sounds like the best fix).

there is a non-return valve between canister and tank, so cant blow it back
i already tried that
and got an eye full of vapours
dug out a chiltons manual ive got, and that reckons its permanently sucked into the intake on an injection, whereas a carby only sucks on it at start-up.
im going pull the tank to clear the crud from the top and see whats there, i think i will just do what quadracer said and fit a vented cap, then remove the whole setup, and blank the pipe at the tank. i took the plug off the switch/solenoid at the intake manifold and nothing happened, so it cant be too much of a big deal if i remove it.

The cannistor is just for emmisions. stops the petrol vapours from entering the emviroment. Pull the hole system including non return valve. Plumb the hose form the tank to some where high and dry outside the cab and/or put a little filter on the end. Thats how the old tanks are set up. The carbon cannistor is all about beng green.

il do that then, ive got to do my diff breathers yet so il run a pipe from the tank and run them all up to the firewall.
