cant get my hub off

Post by wildplumdx »

what a mish, i'm changing my discs and having issues removing my hub on the left side, driver side went fine but left side is another story, i have the right tools also a 8mm hex key and have a hex socket, even tried the rattle gun but no luck, put tons of crc on it, but would the crc even penetrate as the hubs are water tight ? anyone got any ideas? also is on a 4x4 l200 1996

also i remember seeing something in magazine and it would freeze the bolt off like take it to -40 so the metal contracts and makes it easy to remove but i cant find it online as i dunno what it was called ?

I think I have a can of the freezing stuff and found it to be useless. I used crc penetrate and a heat source (tiny gas torch / solderer) and it worked a treat (was on the small bolts holding a pulley on the front of the zuk and didnt want to shear them off) just heat and then spray (the cooling of the bolts draws the penetrate in - well thats the theory) leave for a minute and repeat then give it a go with the socket or whatever. If it doesnt work try using a drift against the centre of the bolt and hit it with a hammer (not smash it, just moderate force) to shock the threads and then the heat/crc method again.

Good luck.

somewhere like boc gas or air liquie (spelling) or on gas

heat it up till its warm to touch this will expand the bolt/thread and should crush the rust then spary the crc/penetrating oil and 9/10 times the bolt un-does use a ring spanner and give it light taps in both directions if possible not just 1 heave as mentioned the shock should release any rust or whatever

hope that helps a little

If you can get a ring spanner on it and tap it while turning it it may help to free it up. turn it both ways though just to get it moving. My butane torch is a tinty little thing and takes lighter fluid (comes in a pressurised can). Doesnt last long or like wind much but it works.
