Lift option LWB GQ to fit 33s
Lift option LWB GQ to fit 33s
Hi.2" body lift and a 3"suspension lift sound ok.Was thinking maybe the springs would settle/sag a bit after awhile. So would end up with a 2"x2" lift.Still be enough room to fit 33s on 15" rims?

Research tells me some of the kits do not always match up.End up having to exchange shocks for longer/shorter ones etc.
I run 3" dobinson coils, and procomp shocks.
The shocks are the same length that OME run in their 4" lift kits.Rear left coil can drop out at full travel, but nothing a bit of lacing wire doesn't solve.
I ran tough dog coils/shocks for a couple of months but found them too stiff, but the dobinsons are great.
There are a lot of different factors when deciding on coils, such as the bullbar you will add, load carrying, towing, onroad/offroad driving/handling. At the end of the day, explain to the dealer exactly what type of driving you expect to do, whether you would sacrifice on road handling for off road capabilities or vice versa. Remember there are liniar and progressive coils too.

I have just brought the 4" EFS springs from 4wdbits.co.nz,they arrived today only fitted the front at this stage.
No shocks yate, well measure once springs setall down.
I dont tow or carry heavy loads,I wanted a softish spring but with good lift which was harder to find than I throught.
Cant comment on there performance yate, well keep you up dated

Not sure who the distributors are, I got mine from GT Performance here in Blenheim, the owner of which uses Trade Me, so you could contact him via there if you like (I paid $200pr)http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/show_member_listings.asp?member=190132
Or PM GQTROL. He uses dobinsons in his comp GQ, and has had his specifically made to suit his wagon.

Hi Dave M.Autoalign are the agents for Dobinson springs.Web search shows about 3 shops in both islands.1 close to me.Will pop up and have a chat to them regards my driving requirements.Does raising via a body lift cause any other types of stress on the body?Cracking ,that sort of thing.I read that the chassis and engine mounts may need to be replaced at the same time.Does this sound correct,as in your case?

Although I haven't done a body lift, I am considering it.
There seem to be conflicting stories on whether or not you can cause damage to the body when doing this.
I know of a few people that have had cracks around the body after lifting, while others are fine. Perhaps making the diameter of the lift blocks bigger so there is more surface area on the body may help? (not really sure if it is possible).
What do you mean by the chassis mounts? Would pay to check engine mounts, I know a lot of guys that have broken them, mine are still ok because I drive like a nana

Hi Dave M.Body lift kits. Those ozzie ones sound a bit steep $ wise.Better for me to source them in a local(AKL) shop I think.Get them to manufacture them for me.Steel,Alloy,NYLON with crush tubes should be no sweat for the boys up this way. There is really alot of very clever engineers in NZ.I tend to agree with your comments re the cracking issue.Round body blocks, could be replaced with rectanglur blocks to increase the surface area, weight spread wise.Aren`t the chassis mounts south side of the T/X case?Remembering I`m a novice in this area.Reading manuals, web searching,is my limit at the moment. That`s why this forum is so invaluable to me.

hi there have just fitted 50mm lifting blocks under my chassis and found a noticable difference in handling, it also has very soft 75mm lift springs and adjustable tuff dog shocks.. i have the shocks set on hard for highway driving and it catches the wind a bit, you have to drive it all the time whereas before the body lift went in it wasnt to bad. at least the 35" simexes dont rub now. it would be better without the body lift by chopping the shit out of the guards and narrowing the offset of the rims. thats my 2 cents worth but its not expensive to do..
welcome to the world of drivn wandering 4wds
they are never the same once you start playing with height and big wheels.....,and wait till ya get rim locks
then the fun beggins
you thinks thats bad try drivn a western star all fkn day now that wanders and dordils all over the road like youre nana with alsymis
,but real horse power and thats what its comes down too
oh and dont get me started on the clutch
dont take effence about the nana part mate
just an example

I have heard of the front 2 body mounts on the chassis cracking but only on trucks that are given a real hard time it isnt nothing that cant be fixed if you are handy with a mig.
When i did my body lift i wend and got a 300mm long by 80mm diameter peice of nylon cut it into 6 40mm lengths with a drop saw (only needed 6 as it is now a ute) and put a 12mm hole in the middle. Including bolts it only cost $85.
There are 2 trucks in my club that did the same thing 3 years ago and havent had any trouble with it.

Hi fella`s,been away for the w/end.Some good replies have been posted in that time. That looks like a good lift option doddzee. Some of those ozzie safari lift kits are over $400.Wonder if getting crush tubes pressed into the nylon blocks would be of any help?Looks like this maybe the track I might follow.Need to try and locate someone that sells the nylon up Akld way.

At the mo I`m running new rubber Firestone RMT 3110.5R15`s.Was wondering if just going with the 2" body lift for now, would be OK?Look abit naff with that rubber?Could I run with the current OME springs and shocks?Or,will the geometry be thown out with this option? Will add to the setup as funds permit. That`s the down side of being a responsible Dad.Family and morgage are top of the list.Like almost everyone else on this board I guess.

Last time I checked, the local certifier charged around $380, so your better to get all the mods you want done to the truck that you can before you go in.
Bilstein shocks are supposed to be bloody good, but I'm not familiar with their models. Are they rebuildable, adjustable? What sort of price range are they?

I was going to fit the 5150 bilsteins but decided against it as they are mono tube (easier to damage) and also they have a reputation of breaking the mounts.(have a look around you will see what im on about)
in the end i went with tough dog foam cells., i would look at local shocks like tough dog etc before you go to bilstein etc.

I mainly just potter about in mine, with the lift mainly so I could get 33's under the guards to stop dragging the diffs (which it still does).
Bilsteins would be a good shock, but I guess it all comes down to price, and if you decide at a later date to lift the truck a little more, you will need longer shocks. I only run Pro Comp shocks, which were $135ea, but do the job. There are a lot of options out there (OME, EFS etc) so compare prices.

That`s the same as I plan/do DaveM.Guess I should just hold off awhile longer, save up and do all the lift mods in one hit.I can do without several $380 certs to stay legal. Still great to have all these Nissan guyz helping me out.Other brand drivers have been very helpful too.I love this site.onya cobber.
