2 inch lift on a 91 terrano

Post by tracta »

hi people

ive got a 91 terrano with td27 in it. Im looking at giving it a 2 inch lift. as far as I am aware it has standard shocks at the moment. there is a switch inside for electric but cant see that is connected. will the standard shocks be ok for the lift or will I need to get new ones ? and how good are king springs ?

You will need new spirngs and shocks to lift. The only way you can lift the front is to reindex and wind the torsion bars, which will cause you excessive outside tyre wear. If you want to do it properly then look at the Calamini kits for them.

how quickly would the wear be noticable ? I know it obviously depends on how much I drive it etc but given that a calmani kit is about a grand and cant affrod it just yet ( also not sure wether ill use the terrano for an offroad beast ) not sure thats its worth it just yet.

when i did the lift on my terrano we reindexed the torsions and had the wheel alignment done and it hasnt worn the tyres unevenly?? and a 4x4 specialist (mechanic) in kapiti said the auto shocks would be sweet with the 2inch lift??

i bought some 2 inch lifted springs for my d21. and fitted some 33 x 10.5's bf goodrich muds. I did not replace the factory shocks, and wound up the torsion bars.
You do loose some wheel travel by keeping the standard shocks, but if money is an issue its a cheap way of doing it. Also you loose a lot up travel in the front when you wind up the front torsion bars, the guy that did the alignment said the truck is almost resting on the bumpstops just sitting still on the flat and is not the best to drive on. but i drove it around for 6 months and took it off road with no problems.
i am NOT an expert, but just sharing my exprience, i have had a few d21's.
