Welly vs. Canty vs. NOBs vs. The Rest

Post by fweddy »

As this site seems to have lots of non 4wding happening why don't we see who actually does some 4wding.

Since it's predominately Welly and Canty members and a handful from north of the Bombays and a scattering of the rest of the country let's divide it into four.

Here is how it works.
- Vote for which area you are in above.
- Each time you use your vehicle offroad and with 4wd engaged calculate your KMs covered.
- Make a post with the amount of kms done and add that to the last figure for your area and put the new total at the very bottom of your post. Every one else can check your math and moderators can correct it.

This happens till the end of October, when we will divide the amount of kms done by the amount of people for that area and get a kms per person rate.

Of course if you are stuck and spinning your wheels that will add extra kms but it also means you were doing some more serious offroading.

No road kms allowed, only while in 4wd, you have to be judge of it yourself, so we'll allow a huge margin of error for certain members  No back dating, starts today Sept 3

Starting figures:

Welly - 0.00kms
Canty - 0.00kms
NOBs - 0.00kms
The Rest - 0.00kms

Why not make it easier to figure out which group you belong to by using anniversary day holidays, i.e. we in the manawatu get to celebrate wellington anniversry day and yet you've got us lumped in as "the rest". No objections to this but find the goegraphical generalisations of welly, canty, nob, and the rest a bit simplistic. Means I get counted as well as one on the wet coast or southland etc. Not really a true representation of location for assessing 4wd use.

If you feel closer akin to the guys in Welly then feel free to join them. What ever turns your wheels! Just as long as you put your vote and kms in the same category you are fine! I'll leave it for the Welly crew to reject you if they don't fancy :)

Actually you might be glad to join The Rest - there is a lot of yap on here from the Welly lot so we aren't sure how much offroading they actually do!

Got the first update.

At the end of every Wednesday I go up to Amberley for work and take the work station wagon but today it was busy so took my cruiser and on the way back I called in to the Kowhai and went upstream till I started feeling it soft and got scared of pea shingle and then headed back down covering 2.9kms

Canty - 2.9kms

Did about 50k on the weekend on the westcoast. Do about 100k offroad a month on average. mainly on the coast though. Does the sheffield mudplug this weekend count as 4wd k's.

Doesn't matter where you do the offroading!

Sure does, you aren't on a road and you have 4wd engaged. I was thinking of this idea for a while but that's why I started it before sunday  Mind you the Welly crew have a few things planned too.

Just went and got a WOF. No problems. So decided to go find some. (Yeah I get friday afternoons off although normally end up working) Spent 4.5kms down the Ashley looking at the sights since the latest fresh (still running brown), one part of one track had been washed out and left about a chest high bank with a waist high vertical top on it so I used my bullbar and tow bar to rearrange it a bit and climbed up :)

Very interesting down there at the moment especially when by yourself! We need to arrange a day down there soon since there haven't been many good Canty days out for a while and we need to do a bit more to keep our ratio up. 8)

So Canty goes from 2.9kms + 4.5kms to

Canty 7.4kms

Hi Al they have a trip up there nearly every week. Just think of the trips you have done in the last couple of months. Barn Bay, cattle track, copper creek, bulletproof chasm, napoleons hill, worsleys spur ,Kopara , flag staff and this weekend sheffield mudplug.
The wellington guys do there trip every weekend Rallywoods , Rallywoods , Ralleywoods ,Ralleywoods etc etc etc etc

Don't we have good 4 wheeling in the Mainland.

Yep, those guys up north have some driving to do just to catch up to me, let alone all you other Mainland dudes.
Al
Plus we actually do our 4wdriving in the bush down here in the mainland, not on-line. And we don't have get on-line to prove it, just look at the damage to our trucks.

then on the way home i drove down barrys road which is 4 km long, then strangers Road which was 6 km long. i had to get some mud in the old girl and lili got to see lots of little lambs

CANTY 11+ 7.4 = 18.4

after getting back from the mudplug (I didn't count to paddock driving there lol) I saw a vehicle stuck down the ashley so went to pull him out then went down the river for 4.9kms so

Canty 18.4 + 4.9 = 23.3kms

I've had it in 4wd just about every day for the last few months. Theres a house being built on the lawn in a few months so I though I'd start to dig it out a bit for them :D. Won't count for many Kms but it keeps me happy.

Sunday 07/08, Up Mt Murch (about 4kms) and over the Porika/pylon track (about 5kms).

Two of the four were member trucks, so:

The rest 5.5 + 18 = 23.5kms
