What motor

Post by motivated »

This is from another post:
>>Is it a vitara or grand vitara ? I know that the vitara has the mazda diesel in them and they ran these in the 626 since about late 80's<<

I'm looking to build something similar to my avatar as a project for my son and I.

My lady has a Vitara (escudo) 1600 and they seem a little under powered for what I want to do (Hilux diffs etc).

Is there a 2lt petrol motor (say mid 80 mazda 626) that will bolt straight up or do I need to go for all Hilux/Isuzu running gear.

I'm also asking as I wish to repower my ladys vehicle.

Also, if you know of a Zuk body doing nothing in the S.I I would be interested in knowing.

Thanks

Yeah it use to be in upperhutt but he sold it a couple of months ago not sure where it is now.

If you get your gearing sorted the suziki motor will beable to turn 35's, There are quite a few in aussie that run 35's or bigger, have a look at http://www.outerlimits4x4.com there is alot of good info on there.

You can buy low ratio gears for the transfer which will drop the transfer ratio 120% so you can run those big tyres

That beasty in the photo was running a 2.2 petrol hilux engine that had been re-cammed for better torque. It worked well. If you are running Hilux diffs/Transfer you should be able to run any engine combo up to around 3.0l without any problems. Plenty of v8 hiluxes around so they must be fairly tough.
