Yeah the driver has a lot to learn aye.

But I'd rather learn in a truck like mine than a truck like yours PR.

You think THAT'S ugly. Nahhh.
You should see me without a beanie and sunnys on PR!!!
But hey PR. At least I have all my hair.
(now that was a low blow, sorry)

It isn't a fashion parade PR. Who cares what the blokes look like.
Hmmm. But I am flattered you went to all that trouble to put my face in a frame and all that.
It's a little pixelated.

Enter. The new purpose built compressor tank. My lockers will run off this. As well as air tools. Soon I'll be able to let down my tires to help traction then fill em up again before going home. Sweet!!!!
I didn't ask for a shiny tank though ok. I would of preferred it black. But as long as it does the job, I'm happy. It's also a little bigger than I wanted. But it fits, just. It clears everything. That's the main thing.

This is where it will live.

So it's slowly coming together.

Re: petefj40's never ending mods!
After the last few times smoking the tires on my 40 i did notice valve bounce after around 5000rpm. I'm planning on freshening up the motor this year anyway. But I'm worried about valve bounce while at high revs in the mud on Sunday.
Knowing that this years mud plug will favor trucks with lots of horse power I don't want to hand-grenade my motor and with the current valves there's a good chance that would happen.
SO. I've had new valve springs installed. These aren't your standard LS1 valve spring. They're not only stronger but dual springs. Kev says they should handle 7000rpm NO problems.
After they are installed it's on the dyno tonight.
I'll throw up some youtube of a run if anyone's interested?
These are the old worn springs.

These are the new ones.

This is Kev hard at work installing them. He does bloody well with only one hand.

Other option would be to find a higher gear.......

SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods

True. But the older style 5 speed box doesn't like fast gear changes at high revs. So I'm figuring if I could rev the crap out of it would be safer.

And anyway. Where's the fun in having to change gear at low revs? I might as well run a turbo diesel motor.

Re: petefj40's never ending mods!
you better have someone on filming your cruiser pete
you should be able to pull 3rd or 4th low in the bogs and hills pretty easy. Lots of revs are fun

Last year i never even used 4X4 low. I had enough grunt down low in high ratio.

My brother will be on the video camera this year. I'll look forward to watching the play back as much as anyone else.

I'll get you more details on the valve springs tonight.
Kev tells me he has the 40's on the dyno now so I'll pop over and take some vid before taking it round to Ricks.
Re: petefj40's never ending mods!
Got a good tune done in the end.

And here's one run on the dyno.
It's a pretty average one.

I'm not sure why I'd go to anyone else for a warrant anyway.
So you've been trying to straighten up that front bar then?

Re: petefj40's never ending mods!

That's the ditch I farked my back on.

Nah mnc. The front bar and hid lights are sweet as!! But the when the rear of the truck came back down it smashed both tail lights to bits. That and the clutch (which i think has mud in it, might be easy fixed) and my back were the only things that gave me trouble. I'll be driving it round town again by the end of the day.

Re: petefj40's never ending mods!
How's the look of my co drivers jacket? At one hazard a marshall commented, "a male and female team!"
He was wearing his partners jacket for some strange reason.
He did get shit about it. I did warn him before putting it on.

Yep. They are from VCM Performance
www.vcm-suite.com.au/performance
Cost is around $800 mark for a set.
Hope that helps.

how did your new springs in it go? have you moved the rev limiter?
Re: petefj40's never ending mods!

Really well thanks bananas!!
I didn't hit the limiter to often. I was afraid of going into the crowd.

The springs are rated to 7000rpm. At the moment the limiter is set at 6200 (stock) so I'll get that changed for sure.

Sure.
Talk to Andrew Thomason.
He owns a fabricating company called,"Full Size Performance" that lives in Chch/Middleton on Vanadium Place.
His contact details are:

He knows his stuff.
Before moving back to New Zealand he worked on Rod Millen's team in the states.
You should see the toys that guy has in the back of his workshop mate!! It'll blow your mind.

Re: petefj40's never ending mods!
Tim (Hosehustler) and Rick pulled out the transfer case n gear box today.
Rick was saying the clutch didn't look that bad but it was sure full of dirt!
So it's out with the old and in with the new. The old clutch ain't that old. Rick and Mark put it in around 6 months ago (real hassle to get it all back together they recon due to the Marks adapter bellhousing kit and extended spiket shaft). The cost of that clutch was around $400. The new replacement one coming down from Auckland tomorrow is a big improvement. They tell Rick it shouldn't take in so crap when you're going through boggy sections like the last. But the cost is 3 times as much. $1200.
So while waiting on the clutch they're be fixing a transfer case leak before it goes back together.
Other things that need to be done is replacing the two 12 inch electric radiator fans with a 18 inch hydraulic powered one. That should take the CFM from 2500 to close to 5000. That should sort out the heating issues n will help me gain a lean fuel map boosting horse power.
Both rear tail lights need replacing as they got smashed after coming down from landing on it's nose. (current avatar)
I hope it's all ready for the weekend after next. I have to take it up to Nelson for my boys school ski trip.

Fiddles on a fj40 cruiser? Anyone have any on theirs?
By the way.
Rick did a mint job installing the new exedy clutch on my 40 the other week. Took him a couple of gos getting the right slave cylinder in there for the extra throw needed. But now it jumps off the line.
I've still got some minor engine heating issues. But next week I'm doing that radiator fan replacement mention above.

1. Coz I can (i know that's going to pis people off)
2. Coz wen I do get it dirty i would like to turn on a dime (if it doesn't cost me an arm n a leg)
3. Running larger tires has reduced the turning circle HEAPS!
4. Having fiddles might mean I get it dirty more often.
5. It'll give something for my kids to play with when we go off road.
