There are a total of 5 humans and 3 working elephants in an area the size of Dallas, and no vehicles have been inside for the past three years. We take our trusty offroader and go in 13 Kms into the jungle from our camp, and our 4x4 slips down a hill slope. We straighten it's nose to avoid rolling over. We try to get out (with lockers in both front and rear axles ) and we find that the soil is saturated with water and we end up slipping deeper into the valley. After 30 minutes, we decide to hike deep inside the jungle to reach an elephant camp to get help.
This means walking through uncharted jungle for 10Kms up a hill to a river bed and following the river to the camp. With tigers, elephants, leopards, king cobras etc. lurking about, this was the most frightening and exhilarating hike I have ever taken. Finally after a few hours of heart thumping hike , we got some help and returned back just before the sun set. Help came in the form of a 30 year old Tusker and 2 tribal people, and a tow rope made insitu out of tree bark. Needless to say that the hike back was much less fearsome as we had a Giant Tusker on our side![]()

This is what you do when you get your Force Gurkha bogged on a trip in India I'll let Ram tell the story then watch the vids in sequence. Just goes to show, no matter where you are in the world the most memorable trips are the tough ones.

When I lived in India the local garage had an Elephant that they used to use to lift cars up onto jack stands.
Damm impressive and extremely strong, and they are smaller than their African Cousins.
You would think twice about maintaining it as recovery equipment though ,if you seen how much they eat!
