Cheers for the heads up DaveM but if I get the yellow top up from Chch it'll be $620. If I pay that much I'd want to be within driving distance in case there were any warrenty issues to be sorted.

I'll see what Moonhopper comes up with on monday

Make sure you are quoting the same battery as there is more than one size of Yellow top battery.

Yep, sure to as I don't want any less than the C20 75Ahr one, I think it is the YTS 5.5. It is the biggest capacity yellow top one I have seen online. Any less capacity an I figure I might as well make room for two.

The optima C20 75Ah yellow top in Palmerston North was going to cot me $665  Haven't tried to get anyother price from anywhere in PN or other place but if I get serious on the Optima I certainly will. The Orbital 34DC deep cycle (750cca - odd that a deep cycle battery gets a cca rating rather than the C20 Ah rating... :? ) was going to be about $600 retail but much less if I could get trade $$.

Let me know if you get serious as i can get them at a much better price.

I run a 1000CCA in my hilux and it works perfectly with my winch. I think I paid about $400 so I those prices seem too dear and I would shop around.

Cheers Richard

  Was just thinking of asking what capacity you run with. Have read your thread a couple of times looking for references to the batterys you use.

1000CCA, is this from a 'normal' SLI battery or two, or from one/two of the optima or orbital range?

EDIT: And what alternator amperage you got to keep that capacity charged and ready? EDIT:

Hey Jafa, what sort of capacity did you get and are you going to be using it for much winching work?

Cheers,

Phil

Optima does not recommend Red Top to be used for winching use, its more a starting battery. Just in case there are warranty issues down the road

Yep, read about that and I am reluctant to pay the money they're asking for an SLI battery only to end up cycling it a lot through a winch load every now and then. Cheers for the advice.

Haven't heard back from Moonhopper yet so may send a PM if I still haven't heard anything shortly.

Cheers Jafa, yep forgot you had a mile marker on your truck. I was also considering hydraulics but for the good value elecky winch I was able to get (cheers Steve) and then the decision to put it into a multi-mount type set up on my truck. Realise hydraulics can be done like this also with quick connects but...
