4wd river behaviour
4wd river behaviour
I'm putting this here because I think safety & behaviour go hand in hand. I was coming back from Murchison this afternoon crossing the Waipara river bridge. As you get to the CHCH side and head up the road there is steep bank on the right side of the road in full view of the public. There were three muppets/idiots driving up this bank in full view of the public. One was safari (at the top) the others a blue disco and cruiser I think. This not only gives the public a bad image of our sport and us but is also a danger to the traffic passing by at 100k that would get distracted by this stupid behaviour. It is also stupid behaviour in a very topical and sensitive re : the Waipara. I only hope it wasn't people from this forum. If any of you are members of this forum, search the forum and look at all the shit we have hd to deal with becasue of idiots like yourselves doing shit like this. If you want to see how big your balls are nd how good your truck is, come with me to the West Coast, I have said it many times but sadly none of you take the offer.

I agree 100% Al . There is a time and place for everything and that is neither the time or the place, it only gives the public a negative view of 4x4s.

I agree as well 100000000000%. Having helped with the Waipara issues this is the last thing we want Joe Public to see. It only takes one idiot to kill it for everyone. If you know these people anyone, have a queit word

I mostly agree with what you say....but to say people shouldnt do things cause someone driving past might have an accident because they are rubber necking is ridiculous...do we also ban pretty women walking along the street cause they are nice to look at & someone might have an accident casue they are having a perv.....get real.
Re: 4wd river behaviour

That is not really the issue here . The Waipara river is a protected area and when the public see this behavior 4 wheelers are all given a bad name at a time when we are fighting for access.
It's plain stupidity and selfish to destroy it for everyone.

Re: 4wd river behaviour
Regardless even when doing 'legal or kosher' activities in a river bed I normally try to play away from bridges or back of properties or anywhere in public view, simpily because of the fact that many people looking on as a general rule don't see it as a positive thing when they see a 4x4 in a riverbed regardless. And when you get stuck its less embarrassing:)

Thats a good point coxsy coz we all know how hard it is to try and maintain a responsible public image (and we all have our own little slip ups from time to time

Re: 4wd river behaviour
Why is it when one of our members See's something that will give 4WDing a bad rap, posts it on here he gets jumped on ?, so he has limited time and doesn't word it to everybody's satisfaction, get over it you know what the main point is. Why didn't he go back ??, he has just driven for two hours and is still an hour from home, maybe family in the car or what ever, for those of you who don't know that bit of road, you pull up from the Waipara bridge through a cutting on SH 1 with a big winery complex on the left, a side road off to the right, a big weigh bridge station just up the road, double passing lanes both ways and double yellow lines. Post something supportive , you have just got this member back don't knock him for six again.

Re: 4wd river behaviour
Take their no plates and photos if possible next time ....and then report them to the appropriate people..... that's what people normally do to idiots up here round red rocks which is a public area as well.

Glad to see you back, Al.
dont be a stranger, just strange!!
as regards idiots. They bastards are EVERYWHERE!!! and always in the public eye, doing idiot stuff.
it was ever thus, though, yes?
In the NZDA we had this in and around Tokoroa, years ago, old faded NZDA logos on coats swannies etc, and shooting cows or sheep cos they didn't get a deer.
THAT closed a helluva lot of access to us then, cos of them. Turned out that they had NEVER been members, but had bought a swannie with the logo on it at a garage sale.
We still got tarred with their brush though.
How do we stop it?
Don't know.
All we can do is burnish up OUR public image with responsible behaviour,
Do OUR public relations bit, by newspaper advertising, doing GOOD WORKS, like fun rides for kids and service groups, anything to raise the level of public awareness and recognition of OUR brand as belonging to the good guys.
