Another vote for the auto work going into the tech section, but I still have no idea how they work .

Chopper have you measured the length of the boxes? How long is the Holden Auto and duals compared to the original hilux box? Also if you make any oil pickup mods can you document these also, a couple of the holdens that have died that were in 4wds were put down to oil pickup on angles.

Are you thinking of going back to lpg or just get it going first?

The commy auto is shorter than the toyota gear box so this ment I was able to put the motor a little bit more forward an
d run standard drive shafts with the dual transfers

but anyway I got the motor in the hole on saturday night we had to move the motor forward about 80mm so the throtle body will miss the fire wall , so this ment cutting my low profile cross member but I could also lift the transfers and auto up another 60mm also I had to make new engine moutns as the commy ones wont work. so we will wire it up tonight

well we got the motor running last night thanks to mike for his help. it ran a bit rough to start with but once I replaced a broken spark plug she ran mint

all I have to do is modify the sump to miss the high steer arms   but got cracking on that tonight and removed sump and hacked out the part I need for the clearence for the arms and will fold up some steel for the bit I'll cut out of the sump and also the bit for moveing the sump back to hold more oil arround the pick up

will post pics later

choppers new toy

Post by Chopper01 »

right well its been a few weeks now and my pos is just about done. we got the motor all wired thanks to mike for helping out there. It started dam near straight away , she ran a bit rough but that was down to a broken spark plug

I started to put the dash back together and get the transfers all oiled up and put the shifters back on . then we spent some time getting the auto shifter sorted out , we had to cut the side of the tunnel out to make it fit then plate it back up,

we got the radatior installed and made up some custom pipe work to join it onto the motor. also had to modify the heater core in the dash as where it went through the fire wall it was going to hit on the throtle body.

Also pulled all the carpet out as was still wet so it had to go, now I would put pics up but someone pinched our camera so I am unable to

But will hopefully take it for a hoon this friday night   also must say a big thanks to jase as well for his help 8) 8) 8)
