W Series engine options

Post by 2MEKE »

Can anyone tell me what, if any, engines will bolt straight up to a W series bellhousing?
It was originally attached to a diesel.

Depends what w series bellhousing you have? If it was a Hilux 2.4 2LT then not many.

Need to be more specific with what your plans are as there are many differnt bellhousings that will bolt to the w box.
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)

It was originally behind a 2L-T.
I'm considering my engine options but am going to put hilux diffs/trans/xfer into my SJ80.
I had a quick look on the net last night thinking about the 4a-ge/gze, 3y, 18-22R and 3S engines.
I believe you can get a "W" to 4age bellhousing but what is it found in??

i did the 3s swap to a w box, 2c diesel RWD van bellhousing starter back plate and clutch plate, got the 2c ring gear mounted to the 3s flywheel, used 20v blacktop headers. it works well, apart from the engine being at least 6 inched through the firewall.
the carby sits right up against the clutch master , fuel injection would never fit , 3sg head would never fit

R series engines are easy, you just need the bellhousing and innards from a lux that had one from day one.
A series engines to W boxes is common in the road car scene. There are after market manufactures doing them. Look on Tardme.
And the S series is a laugh, as t-bo (the knob-gobbler) has done, or find a 2S corona cressta that was manual and use it as a donor. There is a lot of messing around, but Tristan's goes really well.

The reality is if your putting it in a zook find a whole 4x4 3Y or the better 18-22R lux and start chopping.
If you want lighter and like revs, the 4age is good. But..... you would be better of finding a rwd T50 gbox with it and using the zook t/case. Thing is, they fetch a pretty penny. From what ive seen it would be cheaper to buy a rolled lux then a 4age-T50 combo.

Spoke to a guy friday night and he said the same thing...a bit too big :(
At this stageI'll to keep an eye out for a cheapish 4agze/ca18det and gearbox and may end up running that thru a divorced hilux transfer with hilux diffs.
Got told of a Vitara/Escudo that's been rear-ended and may be for sale...what will it be, 8v or 16v??
