airbags vs bullbars

Post by cruza »

Got a issue ,haven't really had a clear answer too . Have a 1997 80 series with airbags , and want to fit arb bar. Told today by dealer, the 80 series bars aren't airbag "crash tested" . Looking at landtransport factsheet it appears to me the bullbars only have to be crash tested/comply on vehicles made after 2003 and fitted with airbags. sent email to LT agency, hoping someone on here may know more than me... :D . Factory bumper will last 5min if I leave it on.. Thanks

ARB Bars are airbag certified and should be ok, they will have a sticker on them or something and all your wof guy needs is to see proof of that. did the Toyota dealer tell you that or the ARB dealer?

Maybe PM the ARB God (Badnuz)

PS Delete your duplicate post :D

At a arb dealer today, thought they were all certified as well, otherwise would have reconsidered truck!! apparently not certified on 80 series bars, was a bit dumb struck.

Yeah all the yank guys just fit arb bars, don't seem to have same issues here, airbag sensor is apparently inside cabin by gear shifter. Looks that it takes a almost write off crash to fire the bags whether with a bar or not. no problems 4wding , sounds like airbags hooked into speed sensor as well , ie 4wding speeds. better have a look at tjm then, any pics mudy?? how do you rate them compared to the arb?

Same problem with the late model GQ's that came in before the change to GU,air bags fitted, but none of the Aussie bars for the GQ's were airbag tested as Aussie doesn't have Jap imports, so have never heard of a GQ with an airbag......
