Huge thank you to Ryan for putting us up...and putting up with us!
His place was the perfect stopover for the big day out at Costa Plenty.

Got home just after 7pm...convoyed home with Nizsafari & Curly & crew.
Had a good day, lots of mud.....very very very windy and freezing on the ridges...Papas corner got us big time! Then the Driving God suggested a play in a forgotten bog...after we aquaplaned almost to the other side we then had to climb back up our newly formed track and took our our front diff pinion...anyone got a spare cruiser diff head?

as usual costa turned it on big time!!! it was SO BLOODY WINDY!!!!! but it didnt really matter, the tracks are great fun, and watching everyone explore and enjoy is what makes it good!! as always there were some hairy moments and some "stinky"moments too, stinkys safari wanted to mate with my cruiser!!! was a fantastic trip all round, some unsuspecting parts of the track caught a few of us out more than we expected too!!

A top weekend. My thanks to everyone who turned up from far & wide (24 people turned up for the BBQ Saturday and stayed over........awesome). My special thanks to those who bucked in with the cooking both last night and this morning (Jerry, Tony, & Curly in particular).

And a big thanks to the ladies & girls & Shylo who helped out big time in the kitchen with buttering sh#t loads of bread & toast, making up salads and then doing all the washing up, both last night and again this morning, again, much appreciated.

And thanks heaps to all the rest of you guys for coming and trashing my place and Jerry for his eye watering farts. Na, seriously, hope you's had a good time, and you's are most certainly all welcome here again anytime.

Thanks to Euan for leading the other crew round the place, and helping them break their trucks.

Costa Plenty was considerably drier than it has been for some time, thanks to the strong winds it put on for us today. Although somewhat cold up on the exposed tops, it also helped dry out some of the tracks and made some of them a little more forgiving.

Some of you guys found out today, just why it is called "Costa Plenty", with broken trucks and/or parts of broken trucks. So apart from some damages, I hope you's all had a good weekend all round.

Well got back at 10:10, only took 2 hours to get home, not bad really considering that it was raining most of the way!
Awesome day as others have said!! The wind is worse that Wellington! EVEN ON A BAD DAY! but as they say, the worst day 4wding is better than the a day at work!

Looking forward to the next trip up that way! Photo's to come later

What an excellent weekend, thanks to Ryan for putting up with us and to everyone that turned up for a brillant day of 4wding. Bring on the next Costa Trip. Well got home safe and the kids have been safely dropped at there homes. They all said to say thanks for putting up with them and they have some people on there hit list for the next trip (Ryan watch out)

The wind along the range is of a lot of interest to power generators. There are currently 3 separate wind monitoring projects going on along there at various points.

Yesterday, the average wind speed was about 60kph but gusting to up to about 100kph. Average ambient temp was about 9 deg C. Windchill at the quoted windspeeds mean the temp would have felt like about 2 to 4 deg C.

A point to note when looking at windspeeds is valleys can channel the wind, and wind on ridgelines can be a lot higher due to concentration of the wind, so in some places it would have been windier, and in others calmer...

...but yep, there ya have it, windy and cold for sure...

I often work (and drive) in that part of the countryside (amongst quite a few other windy hilly areas in Nth Is) monitoring wind speeds hence the approximate numbers I gave ya...

it is called COSTA plenty for a reason!! glad you had a good time, and my mating with the bank left a far bigger impression than with your saf, i was more concerned that Jerry was a mere few meters away and i couldnt Get away lol!!!!

Also I hope I didn't cause to much damage to the Mu that I towed all that way around the tracks. Tried to take it easy on them but when it's wheels are 150mm off the ground becuase of the ruts and it is slippery, I didn't have much choice but to keep the forward motion up. Haven't put them off have we??? Don't think the passenger was too happy about the muddy strop in her lap

Was impressed by how the whale went over the day and can't wait to learn how to drive it properly now that the mod's are in place, go the front locker!!!!

The show was put on just for you curly!!! Tinted windows would of ruined the effect!

Had fun though - for the hr or so it lasted. We were just hitting the dif and getting stuck! Need to have bigger tires i say! But obviously the tree we ran over didnt like us and decided it wanted revenge!

We are glad we left when we though. It was a slow trip home cokbined with the wind - atleast your tire is nice and flat and ballanced!!! But i dont think the 23 cars we held up on the rimataka's cared about that! Really appreciate the loan of the tire. It definately got us home which was the main thing! Wayne should be swapping his tires over tonight or tomorrow so you should hopefully have it back by tomorrow night! PM me your cell number or address and we will sort it out!

well what a dam good day thanks to all who towed me out of the holes im thinking the old cruiser could do with a roof and sum windows.nearly blocked the shower with all the mud off me.that made the missas look like this

Fantastic trip, thanks to Nic for suggesting and Ryan for organizing

Our half of the pack had a blast, tryed a couple of new tracks and found a couple of very deceptive bogs that required some extensive recovering, bigs ups to Euan for taking the lead and leading us all astray

One particuler fj was getting recovering on a regular basis (ask Taz about the broken tow hook ) and from some interesting positions, but he was hitting everything and having a blast doing it (get dem bigger tahs next time aye )

I thought I had got away unscathed until the drive home when the temp needle went thru the roof, a bottle of water form Nic and some help from Badnuz and Haynzy (I know he wasn't there its a long story ) and I got home, still a temp issue but the heater on helped to control it

Well, will do a radiator pressure test and TK hedchek tonight to ascertain the level of damage and see how thing are
