Don't reckon you boys should throw too much mud before looking in the mirror. These projects always take longer than any of us want - any down time when you cant use your truck is horrible :( .

possibly also saying this as my project ground to a halt some time ago - bloody renovations!

rear mounted radiator with hole for solid stainless lines to go through floor..
Image

rear half of the solid radiator lines... doin it in two halves to enable removal for maintenance and ease of installment.
Image

hole in the rear for the tank..
Image

and the tank notched so it can sit down over suspension and flush with tub..
Image

put tank in the hole with a thick neoprene ish rubber as a bushing and bolted..
Image

had to modify and lengthen fuel level sensor to accomodate the mods..
Image

had to spin the intake side of the turbo to clear exhaust manifold and point towards engines air intake, and rotate the centre to create the stock set up of the oil infeed and drain pointing down, then had to adjust the mounting of the vacuum operated pressure release thingy whatsit..
Image

then it all sits under bonnet line nicely.. and thanks to joey for the highly decorative and pretty coloured tape on the front..

Those radiator lines look tough. Good work.
Coz the radiator is further away from the motor do you have to put a higher volume water pump in the equation Nib?

hope not! :? hence i'm gettin her plumbed up and will run it asap to test temps etc... see if flow will do the jobby or if it bottlenecks and is shizenhouser...

The way the build is going I will book you a cabin for Al's birthday bash 2011 or as an alternative incentive, my BIG 60th in 18 months  , you have been warned, you won't have an invite as a co- driver.

With all the extra piping needing water to fill it should keep the engine temperature down (more water available to cool the engine)...

You will find that as the water in the cooling system is under pressure, it will circulate just as it would with the standard system provided there are no air locks in the system :D

I don't pretend to know a lot about cooling issues. I'm having my own problems with cooling my own setup. (don't mean to hijack your thread nib)
I've been told that if the radiator is at greater distance than stock away from the block the heated water/cooler water needs to move quicker to keep it at stock temp. But then I know if you have to much circulation the water doesn't get enough time to cool causing it to actually heat up.

I'm no expert either, but i have questioned a few people on it when i was looking at rear mouting the rad in the LJ.

You got to think of fluid mechanics. The basic principle is that a fluid can't be compressed, so when its under pressure in the rad lines, the impeller on the water pump is moving the water like it is one big solid mass. Its pumping the exact same volume of fluid around the cooling system as it was designed to.

It obviously takes longer for the warm water to reach the radiator but there is no delay in the cool water reaching the block, and as the thermostat is located in on the block, and that controlls the engine temp, there is no room for discrepancy in opperating temps.

THe engine shouldn't take any longer to reach opperating temp as it is controlled by the thermostat, and as soon as it reaches opperating temp, the termostat will open and the cool water in the lines will reach teh block just as it would with the standard system.

Thats the logic that was passed onto me anyways. Makes sense i reckon :P

Yep all correct, ya dont need a bigger pump or anything extra, if your radiator is sufficient with good airflow etc, then it will be fine. Both my vehicles have rear mounted rads, and they both perform well, good fan and good rad and ya sweet as. biggest problem is getting air out of the system

had to make a bit of a custom bracket spacer dealio on the clutch slave cylinder's mount as a dyna's bellhousing is slightly different to the standard 3b's... its on though.. :D

Image

finished fitting the rest of the front and rear pipe's for radiator... all plumbed up now.. also fitted the new 12v edic set up..

Image

Image

then i mounted a 60 series cruiser brake cylinder set up... had to clear the lip off the radius surrounding the brake booster and also had to clearance the hole in the firewall upwards a tad.. as much as the black line in the picture shows..

Image

trimmed edges and clearancing done... voila..
