Looks great,be interesting to see what it well weigh at the end compaired to a std SWB which is about 2,400-2,500kg.The holden engine well most likely be lighter than the 4.2,probley sit back in engine bay for better weight transfer.

I just fitted some of the EFS 4" springs(lightest spring rate they had)I'd say you'll probley get 5 or so inchs lift with the light rear.

Whats the advantage of the A frame over the STD rear suspension set up?

What do you call a Nissan/Holden??? :D

i think the a frame setup is personal preference but im all for it!

the a arms seem to pivot better than the stock 4 link(no bushing bind up etc)
no sideways diff movement, therefor no panhard rods needed...........

but like i said i think its personal preference

and hey doodz those konis seem to be the go for the gq /gu boys,i like the swivel setup on the shock mounting eyes, had much to do with them?

but ya youre build up is comming along nicely good work.

Dave, Yip i built the bar myself got the winch mount as high and as far back as i can see posible with the body lift i have done. It uses the original pto mount brackets to bolt it to the chassis.

I have gone for the a-frame for the reasons krawler said, i wanted to extend the wheelbase so i thought i would do the a-frame as well. Not having to run a panhard, its easier to set up then a 4 link and they seem to be "freeer" to articulate.

Mercutio you are right the patrol did come out with the RB30 in it, they were a but underpowerd to pull a heavy patrol they had small gearboxs aswell. Think a few guys in aussie have put a head off a RB25T Turbo from a skyline to turbo them.

I mounted the a-frame piviot on the diff thismorning using some 50x50 SHS, i will get around to putting plates to the diff fron the SHS braces but i ran out of steel and gas.

I havent seen the konis before, I havent decided or looked into shocks for mine yet they are going to need to be fairly long for the rear though. I have only use OME shocks and some powerdown adjustable T shocks before whick worked well.

Will look into the konis though

Rancho RS99012's would be something else to consider... Oh, and I have some new 15" travel Ranchos on their way from the US (still about 2 months away) - seems they released some new long ones and didn't tell anyone... I stumbled across them by chance so ordered 4 in to play with :) I figure the MU could use a little more travel to help get me into a little more trouble

Have you worked out how much travel you need?

I did a rough measurement when the springs were sitting on the diff and the shocks will need to be at least 750-800mm long i have to do new shock mounts at the top so i could pretty much make any length shock work.

all the boys in the outback challenge with nissans a seem to swing with the ,koni/king springs combo and they seem to work well.....,i think the konis are priced simular to the ome range and there adjustablr(but not like the rancho dial up type, more like the monroe push and twist style)

looking good some nice enginnering happening

Koni do an 88 series shock which is 750mm extended, 455mm compressed, suitable for the rear of a Nissan. Part number is 88-1457. Could be useful?

Pete D is Pete Durkin.....Simon Guy's old co-driver. He's organising a spectator group to go and watch.

Only two trucks heading over to compete....Sam Baddeley / Mike Porter, Roger McKay / Grant Guy.

Larry Haines has told us about the trip and has put our names down with someone, think i heard the name Pete mentioned somewhere. Might be a good idea to find out the finer details. Leaving on the 13 May and back on the 23rd? Sound like what you are doing GQTROL?

Yup, thats the group he's organising. Leave it all to Pete, he'll sort it out ;-)

We might go over a few days earlier as we're probably borrowing a wagon from one of the competitors, so will have to be there before they head up to Broken Hill. We'll see what pans out.

when you get the motor in, you should bring it over and see how far you get up the ramp.

Hi Doddze
I think you need to support/brace between the 2 rear coil towers or the will be rolling the rails on heavy landings

Yip already thought of that, will be doing that when i mount my shocks as the shocks will mount to that brace.

Lookin good Doddzee,
Are ya gonna use the stock shock mounts on the rear diff?, you could make some new mounts to lift them up outta the mud....where they suck horsepower......and slow you down
'85 Hilux crawler, 3rz, duals, 4.7's, 4.88's, ARB's, 30 spline Longfields, 6 stud SNR4x4 Histeer, Airshocks up front, coiled rear, 40" Iroks.

Yeah i might do i was waiting to get my shocks first to see how high they will sit above the chassis rails, where i want to have the spare wheel, If shocks sit to high i wont bother otherwise i will, The diff sits lower than them so thats more likley to slow me down first.

Since i last updated this i have mounted the Rear shocks (adjustable Konis), and braced the chassis rails between the spring mounts. I have also stripped, strangthened and re assembled the front diff etc with new seals. Got some new springs in the front too.

I have also got to work on my roll cage and tray the steel work for the main hoop and tray is all done aswell as the mounts for the fuel tank which will now sit behind the cab. It sits a bit highre than i would have liked but there is pleantly of clearance if i ever want to runs 44's  I am going to make it so the hole Exo can be unbolted and come off backwards.

I havent made any progress fitting the motor ill try and sort out the adapter kit wile im in aussie next week and get to work on that when im back.

I have also got my hands on another pto winch as mine was in pretty bad condition. I also picked up another drivers door this gives me a spare pair of doors which i will turn into half doors for those summer months. I also managed to get a couple of second hand fibreglass guards and a mould to make a fibre glass bonnet to lighten things up a bit.

Not much has been happpening since i got back OBC and bought a few parts which cleaned out my wallet.

My adapter kit for the 8 has arrived so engine installation pics will follow along shortly, I have also got my tyres sorted 37x13.5x15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws.

My cert guy came around thismorning and gave it a pre paint checkover and was very happy with everything i have done.
