I wouldn't bother with extractors. The factory cast manifold is of very efficient design. You will not notice an increase in performance or economy with extractors over OEM manifold. Spend the money on a bigger exhaust and a proper dyno tune even then it will only be a very small gain.
The only real power increase for a TD42 is to turbo it.

If you are going to work a na TD42 make sure you document it well with dyno figures and lots of photos and dyno vids and post a build thread on here. I would be very interested in your results as would many others on here no doubt.

yeah she still going strong!! only running 12psi and i dont drive it too hard so will be there for a while!! waiting on cert for all mods then back on the road!!

i was thinking of similar things to you about getting the most out of a N/A engine, i guess the first logical option is to make it breathe easier!! Can you get the likes of performance cams and valves for the TD42??

Without blowing lots of smoke you're not going to get much more than 70Nm per litre from a non-turbo diesel.
Sure some head work etc will hold that torque to higher in the rev range, but who wants to rev the tits off a big diesel?

With 15psi and a good intercooler you can double the torque and power. Even with 10psi and no intercooler you can get 50% more.

Again fair comment!! ,,,one thing you gotta look at is the sort of money alot of people are spending on turbo kits,,,,,,hey its not hard if you buy a decent kit to spend 5k with exhaust etc,, ok you can do it yaself but some people cant ,,,,hey i have a business machining engines,,resonably small to resonably large engines so have the facilitys to have a play and make more efficent,,,not trying to get the same sorta power as a huffed engine but just better than what ive got,,,,, people forget cams!! even in diesels!! ,,,,turboing definately the plan at later date ,,,,but to be honest if you want proper horsepower repowering only way to go!!!

They're also smoke propelled, something you don't want in your 4wd. :D
