200 hundred slides

so whats the go.............shiney trucks aswell as hard trucks?

without sounding rude ,it wont be one of these trips that you have to queue up for 30min just to drive one track that takes prob 5mins?or is there a serries of tracks?

do the hard trucks need winches or are you guys gona have recovery vechicles on site?,to be honest 200 bucks i wouldent even want to get out of my truck to hook the rope on,so is there rope goffers like?like a breaker out?

i would appreciate some info and im sure im speaking for others too......

Have you ever been on a safari before krawlr?

Let me try and paint you a not so unrealistic picture. 150 trucks is a logistical nightmare, but thats part of the fun. These sorts of events are aimed at allcomers. No club membership is needed. The trips we do are definitely aimed at getting everyone through with minimum hassle. Our club will have its members spread along all technical parts where assistance is needed.

Now you mention someone to grab your rope for you. Do you have a partner that can help with that sort of thing. In this event you enrol in groups of three. Your recovery is generally up to your own group. Now unfortunately with larger groups as soon as the track becomes tricky and someone gets stuck then the day starts to drag on. But thats part of safari's. You have nothing tricky and its boring or you have tricky stuff and everyone gets grumpy about waiting. Thats just part of it.

This event is run mid winter which can make camping quite unpleasant. No one likes packing up a wet tent in the morning and then setting up again in the rain that night. So we have decided to base the safari in one spot and use a holiday park as our base. This allowing access to facilities and allowing punters to bring there own campers or caravans or tents or even doss down in a hotel in vegas. The main camp is only 30 minutes from Rotorua city.

To be honest its probably the tougher of most safari's with killer hill climbs in the railway run, but if your wanting thompson track then its not for you.

It really is a great social event. Hope to see a few of you there.

Hmmm.

I have pulled out of the Marakopa Safari, can't make the Mamuku Safari.

Maybe this is the one............ :roll:

Better start saving for the entry fee

Was the accomodation included in the entry fee?? e.g some where to park the truck and sleep in the back........

We are currently in negotiations with the campsite to get reduced rates.

Can't imagine it will be much for a parking spot with access to showers and toilets and washing machines and all that sort of stuff.

Is much of the trip through areas you couldn't normally get with out permits/permission from land owners etc etc??

eg, through areas/tracks that are not usually public access??

That alone is what makes these Safaris worth doing

Your on the money there.

We have access through DOC land that shouldn't be used by the public but is now and then.

The Railway run is a good trip. Is through forestry all the way. Runs beside the railway track between Murupara and TeTeko. Its a popular trail bike ride too.

Would a Terrano with Dunlop Grandtrek AT2 tyres manage these tracks???

So what do you get for your $200 and where does the money go.
is it a fundraiser for a good cause?
do you suggest peeps take chains?
are the recovery equipment inspected and scrutineered there would be nothing worse than pulling a towhook off some thing and it flying through the back window and smacking someone in the swede.

Yes the trip is a fundraiser. The Rotoma School will receive the funds that will go towards a computer suite.

Our club has been running safari's for the past ten years. We have a very good record and we plan on keeping that intact.

All vehicle are scrutineered and recovery gear checked. Although this will never prevent someone from connecting two snatch traps together with a shackle(missile) and then pulling on it till something breaks.
