Moonshitta

Post by turoa »

Heres my evoltion of moonhopper.

To recap on what it was:
sj413 motor and box
lj80 transfercase
austin a35 diffs
zuki chassis
motorbike shocks for susp

basically I was not happy about what I hadmostly because the rare welding bird had paid a visit and shit all over it, and since I had to keep it.... I decided to change a few things. Most retarded decision I have made for awhile. Started with a few things and next the cage had been cut off

So new specs are

Swift gti motor
Barina auto gearbox
same diffs and rear susp, but front changed to a 4 link
complete new cage
everything is lowered. The sump is almost on the ground

Only suzuki chassis left is about 1.5 m of straight box.

A bit more has been done since those photos, but I will not be revealing the overall look until it is finished to will only be uploading small tech snippets.

Not entirely sure of my chances of making rnd 2 of nats though :( :(

Why Austin A35 diffs? Not the first time I heard of these being used on an off-roader.
Are they strong? Or easily modified? Can't imagine spares would be easy to come by these days?
Or where they just cheap and plentiful some years ago when this buggy was first built?

when it was first built, they were what was lying around

but I have decided to keep them because they are so light. I struggled to lift a bare hilux front housing, and could lift the complete front end out of this thing bymyself fairly easily.

and skid, why is it that you have the impression that i spend my whole day driving around? you cant exactly spend the whole day working on it and I also am running out of stuff to do before I get the front end in because alot of stuff is relying on that
