G16a Popped its head :-(
ahh my parents suzuki vitara has blown its head well havnt pulled the head off but the mechanics reackon its blown, they wanna sell it as is, but if i can get a head cheap enuff might be worth fixing as i'll do the work myself, its a 91 manual 4 door in good condition , what would it be worth in this state ? might be worth fixing ? anyone have a head lying about ? also its injected if that matters? any guidance would be great , thanks
Re: G16a Popped its head :-(
8 valve or 16 valve? If you replace the head get a set of headers to extend the new ones life.

Re: G16a Popped its head :-(
yeah his is gone and like 3 other people besides me where after it ! may just have too sell the suzuki as is

Re: G16a Popped its head :-(
depending on the damage it may be possible to repair the head. A mate of mine I work with cracked the ehad of his suzuki vitara and he took it to a head place on sunnybrae rd in glenfield (auckland). cost around 500 bucks (was a few years back) but he got it back in and sold it as a going concern not a wrecker. Could be an option. Dont assume it is stuffed until the head is off, could just be a gasket.
Let us know the damage when the head is off.

I asked him if he had one as well on your behalf (so only two others were interested)

oh thanks for that, yeah well it never had anti freeze in it so i'm thinking the worst, why do they actully crack ? whats there weakness ?
Re: G16a Popped its head :-(
Not sure but have heard it can be a problem with the exhaust system being too restrictive in the exhaust manifold, could be a faulty / wrong temp thermostat or poor alignment of the head gasket when fitted or poor cooling due to a internally clogged or externaly dirty radiator reducing eficiency of cooling.
Probably no end of possibilities.

nah head not off yet as i would like to get a head the pull it off,and if i dont need the head wont be hard to sell by the sounds of things! and if i cant get a head i would rather leave it as is and sell it so some one else can take the gamble if i end up selling, also seen people putting 1300 heads on 1600 blocks ? must be work involved to be not worth it ? theres one head on TM 1300 swift dohc head reserve is 5bux!
Re: G16a Popped its head :-(
From a yankee site.
And a side note... I've done many 8V swaps over the years. I was feeling lazy once and didn't want to deal with the electric fuel pump issue of the 1.6 head. I used the 1.3 head on the 1.6 block. It was the best low end grunt 1.6 8V I've ever had. The only thing special you need to do is use the 1.6 8V cam gear on the 1.3 head, the timing belt tooth profile is different.
Maybe an option?

Where ? Never saw that

For $600 you can have my complete engine so $1100 for a head is a bit steep when you want to do something on the cheap .

Congratulations on getting what seems like an amazing deal! Could you please put up a link to the trademe page that it was on, I also missed that auction, and had thought I was keeping a pretty good eye on things. Cheers
