95 V6 pajero cambelt
95 V6 pajero cambelt
Hi i am new to the off roading! I have a problem at the moment i am replacing the water pump but how do i release the cambelt tension? It might sound stupid but what does the tensioner look like and where is it situated? Thanks.
Re: 95 V6 pajero cambelt
3.5 or 3.0? Being a 95 I'll assume a 3.5 but it could be a 3.0 still. Have you got all the front of the motor in pieces already? To replace the water pump is a big job, if you have got the covers off you will see how the belt is tensioned.
Replace the cam belt if you are doing the water pump.

It is a 3.5 i have everything off sofar just need to make sure where to release the tension?
Re: 95 V6 pajero cambelt
You will see one of the idlers has the hole off centre. this is the one that controls the tension. To get the tension right in the 1st place, you will see a wee hydraulic canister than pushes on this idler to set tension.
You can reuse these canister thingies by pushing the plunger back in and putting a pin through the hole to hold the plunger in. You will see what I mean when looking.
Make sure it is TDC.
Once the pin is pulled on the plunger do a couple of engine rotations by hand to make sure everything is right then tighten the bolt.
When taking the cam belt off the 4 cam's hold the end of the cam with socket so you can rotate a little and release gently.

O and when doing the water pump, you need to take it right off, (not jsut the front of it) as there is 1 screw in behind you need to take the pump apart.
When reassembling, make sure you put a new O ring and a bit of sealer gunk on it (the pipe that runs from the back of the pump through the V of the motor). If you don't and it leaks you may not detect it as a leak and it'd be a hell of a pain to ahve to pull it down to fix it.

mine was like that was stuck on by the old gasket i just hit it with a rubber mallet and a piece of soft timber cedar i think, shouldnt need much to break the seal just take it easy should be sweet
Re: 95 V6 pajero cambelt
do we have to take the hole termostate housing off to get the water pump off?
Re: 95 V6 pajero cambelt
You must have the cam belt off. There are a number of bolts holding the pump on, You need to remove the hole pump not just the front part of it which you would expect. This is becasue there is a bolt on the rear of it.
Undo the bolts and it should come loose.

yip we know but there is a tube behind it that looks like it is keeping it from comming loose.
Re: 95 V6 pajero cambelt
tube - as in a water pipe about 3/4 inch round? If yes, it just slips off. All that holds it on is an O ring.
