Had a few trucks over the last few years starting with a Hilux Surf
(Note some of the photos are old and things change over time as we all know)
TJM bar
custom rear bar
50MM body lift
spring and torsion bar lift
Snorkle
33" Cooper's
NEW HEAD




Suzuki SJ410
Hilux Diffs
Lockright lokker
custom body (shortned lots)
had 3.8 v6 for it but never got round to it
Quarter Elliptical Suspension in the rear
hilux leaves in the front sprung over.

I have helped build a few trucks in the past including and sprung over 40 Series landcruiser Green V8 on 36 simexs. 84 nissan safari/Patrol sprung over on 35 simexs. Im currently replacing the shocks and springs under the midi with Rancho rs9000's and longer springs.





Hope to be out and about in nelson again soon.

Not my green cruiser it was a mates that we built from a bear chassie in the shed. i saw it on trademe recently it's looking a bit worse for wear.

That was a good little trip...should catch up some time...Have been doing a bit of 4x4ing on the Coast and wouldn't mind having a look north of Westport and Karamea as haven't done much over there

I have done some work in the back of mine but want to add drawers
And I want to lift the radios x3 from there current location too close to the floor/ water

the drawers in the back go as far forward as the rear seats. the bins infront can be removed to fit the rear seat back in. they are on ball bearing draw slides. and can handle about 70kg each. beside the drawers i can fit the high lift jack on one side and spade and axe on the other. the whole idea of doing this was casue i use it for hunting a b it and wanted to be able to sleep in the back which i can on an angle accross and i'm 6'2".






theothe rbits i have done are are a roof console to hold the headunit and cd changer also the prs radio. and a S**t storage round the gear leaver area.

Looks good. I need to revist my rear storage compartments. I got given some plastic draw storage units and slapped up a plywood frame to hold them all in an afternoon - its lasted about 9 months of hard use and the plastic draws have fallen to bits so time to do something more serious - I had something similar to what you have in mind. Problem is I can't open my rear door fully as the spare tyre hits on the bull bar!

hi I have been toying with the idea of 1/4 elliptical springs combined with and air bag suspension for awhile now and was just wondering what you thoughts are? (the good the bad.)

why would you have 1/4 eliptical and airbags? Wouldnt you just have the bags or am I missing something?

the spring hold the axle inplace ,airbag for suspension and a panhard rod to control side movement, saw it done on monster garage

the leafs dont just work by themselves though do they? If you do1/4 eliptic you usually have a 4 link or similar to hold the axle in place and the spring supports the weight of the vehicle?

the quater on the suzuki was great for travel it almost got to a point where it was scary. we set it up wit a 3 link A frame on the top and trailing arms on the bottom. the springs were hilux rears cut in half and inverted. they were mounted to the chassie so they could pivot up and down freely and to the diff with a hanger arangment (upside down) half way along the spring there was a bump stop giving the suspension. we never got round to putting shocks under it as they would have needed about 2 foot of travel!! the suzuki drove really well like this far less springy than it was normally. if your going to do it you will need rose joints on all links and some funky swivle hangers on the springs then you should just about be able to get the body on its side with the wheels on the ground still.

Im not sure what the advantage of air bags would be. I would look at having the bump stops hydraulically and independtly moveable so you can adjust the ride hight, apply pressure to the required wheel whilst still retaning suspension.

no I havnt done it like that and have no desire to
