I figure best value for money spent intially is in something you can actually use for a daily drive if needed also. Whether or not its a Toy or a DD you still got to spend money on keeping it road worthy ("sunk cost", "black hole" or whatever...) unless you've got a trailer and tow wagon. My 2c is get as good as you can afford then you got a play thing thats practical also as a DD...

true, however have my car as my DD and when the missus works split shifts she either gets picked up or has one of her works cars. I guess what i really mean is that i want something that if it breaks (and we all know they do at some stage) there's no panic to fix it like there would be if it was my DD.

this'd be just what you need
plus i'd get some perverse entertainment out of knowing it'll get scratched and dented - just like i've never been allowed to do to it

Why don't you buy basic's cruiser, it's a good truck, good price, cheap to run, reliable and you will know the history

You can have this for what I paid for it. Now that my sons Surf has been recovered, he no longer needs this truck. It is without wheels or winch.

great vehicles. Best standard suspension you can get. Downfalls are the rear diffs and the dizzy's (fixed with an HEI). Rear diffs can be fixed with a salisbury, or a toyota diff head conversion (toyota head inside rover crown and custom axles) howat engineering does this. It really depends on what size tyres you are planning on running.
Easy engine upgrades aswell. Also extremely comfortable

cheers 2s i'd keep it on the 33's would that kill the diff at all.

It really depends on how you drive it. I killed a diff on my old one on 31's but I was really tough on it. Same with cloggy. They dont like to wheel spin. Fitting an ARB can fix the problem. Ask furgus about how much rear end stuff hes broken on 35's with an arb

Re: i'm now looking
ok after 1 or 2 hiccups 4wd buying is back on track ( i still have a job), so once again it's opinion time....lol have spotted a couple of options first
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/Hilux/auction-193423577.htm
secondly a 94 double cab 2.8 lux with 260k no lift but 2inch kit comes with (he wants offers any idea what it'd be worth)
plus a 3rd option that i'm keeping under my hat at the moment.
cheers guys
