Conway River

Post by albundy »

Ran a trip for my club on the weekend (CLROC) but none of the buggers showed up (last trip I run for them). Went down anyway as my boys were very dissappointed we weren't going so I thought why ruin their weekend just because of some lazy arse buggers are too scared of a little water.
River flow is normal but the bottom is very soft. As I was by myself I took it very carefully, walking alot of the crossing first to feel the bottom. River has been up three-four meters higher then its normal flow. River bed is cleared all the way through. Got stuck on the Sunday in a "puddle" no where near the river bed and the ground was too soft to use a ground anchor in. It was more like quick sand as the truck just sunk up to its chassis. Lucky for me a couple of mates came down the river as they knew I was up there and they went out for the day. I had gotten some gear ready and the boys sorted for a long walk out when they arrived, thanks guys. They said they had been stuck heaps of times coming down with water through the trucks that morning.
The river has really changed its course in places, one spot I was just too scared to go in the water so I cut a tunnel through all the tree and debris to get past.
So if you are going down, go with more then two trucks

I must do that trip some time. Maybe we could arrange a trip down there for any interested parties in the near future.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Sounds good. Haven't been out wheeling with you yet Matt. BTW how's the leg of yours?

I better finish getting my cruiser sorted before I'm going anywhere tho - going to put the winch back together tonight.
