Re: 15x7J is what offset?
Cheers steve, but it isnt for me.
I have started bidding on a set of whels and the guy doesnt know what offset they are (dont think he cares) and the only info I could get reliably is the 15x7J. Origionally they were advertised as 15x8's but that was an outside measurement. Bugger cause I for a few days thought I ghad stumbled across gold, guess I will have to settle for silver if I win the auction. I am picking thay will be a std suzuki offset. Will throw a tyre on one of them and swing it in the wheel wells and see where it sits.

Rim Markings
Wheels are made with markings, usually on the rim, the meanings of some of which are fairly obvious, some less so. Consider a wheel marked "15x7J ET38." We should all know that 15 is the diameter, in inches, of the surface the tire's bead rests on, while 7 is the width, or the distance between the flanges that support the bead as air pressure forces it outward along the axis of the spindle. The J is not obvious, but is simple once you know: It simply refers to the shape of that flange, easier to understand if you imagine a steel wheel on which the lip is rolled over like a J. "ET" may or may not be present. It is an abbreviation of einpress tief, German that translates literally as "pushed in depth," or offset. The 38 is the offset measured in mm.
These wheels have another marking t 10 so that may be the offset 10mm (maybe)

wEEMSY,
Found this set of spacers on T me.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 834422.htm
May be better than machining old drums?
Just a thought.

Re: 15x7J is what offset?
Check gain if you can, you will probably find the t 10 is actually +10, and means 10mm pos' offset. That is a common way of specifying offset on some wheel brands. That would be good for 30" tyres but I've found 31's will usually need zero to slight negative offset on a 'scud.

I am thinking that the offset may not be right too. If I get them for a good price I will use them with my 30's but I wont lose any sleep if I dont.

1. Do you need them picked up (assume they are in taihape)
2. how are alloys going to get the advantage you are looking for when steels are cheaper? (no offence)
Re: 15x7J is what offset?
No problem with asking questions, it serves two purposes, educates others (on what to do/or not do) and makes me think about why I want to do something.
Was thinking bigger rubber and lighter rims may increase the life of the drive train (cv's axles etc). Not overly fussed on the whole idea but as I say if I can get them for a reasonable price I'll give it ago. I admit that there is a temptation to just get steelies and be done with it but the price steels are going for make cheap ali's seem attractive.
If I do get them The old man has a guy working with him who drives to Taihape every weekend so he may be able to get them to Taupo for me and I will swap the tyres etc I have here for him and grab mine.

my eyes arent working so good this late at night, but.........................

under the 15x7 bit on the right a little
is that 40 stamped on there
if so, I'm thinking that this may be the offset, but thats quite big for a suzuki
otherwise, I'm no help sorry

Re: 15x7J is what offset?
most alloys were made for vitara/escudos - you must of seen the brothers cruising on ther 15" low profile tyres doing 90kph at 5000rpm wondering whats goin on
Vitara rims were usually close to zero offset as there track was wide as - a touch wider than hilux.
Does the rest of the vitara comply rules?? if so compete in the fawker then worry bout the 10-20 kg weight loss per corner. 90 entries at round two - guessing 7 or so of those in A class - from what I saw its driver balls or error that makes a difference

Re: 15x7J is what offset?
im not sure what the offset is on my standard escudo steel wheels is, (i think its positive 10?) and they make my 30's rub like buggery against the chassis rail.
my 31's are on whitespokes with a -15 offset and they only just clear everything. looking at those ones i would say they are a positive offset as they look the same as the ones i thought of buying a while back. they were +10's.

Had my bid removed on the wheels. Decided the money was better spent on other stuff as I all ready have wheels and they will do for now.

Re: 15x7J is what offset?
Heath,
why dont you go for a set of Grand Vitara wheels (steel) off somethin
around a 2005.I run those for my sand tyres and they seem to have a healthy
offset when on the scud ( and NO you cant have my 5 x 91/2 Inch american alloys i got
off trademe for $200 lol )...

Re: 15x7J is what offset?
Good score. Where have you got them stored?
Nah I have some reversed rims (well the centres have been moved inwards) but they are norrow rims. They will do for now with the 30x9.5's.
Must be a pain to get the tyres to stay on or are you running wide tyres? I seem to recall some mudzillas so that would explain the wide rims.

Re: 15x7J is what offset?
dont worry about them rims heath, 30's will be fine.
ive got my 30's on my standard rims and i think they are 5.5" wide rims?? with 9.5 inch tyres. all good
.
well, except they scuff on the chassis cuz of the offset. i will buy those rims you have when you get some more if you are selling????
